After a West Virginia shelter dog named Dawson escaped from his gated enclosure and then used his teeth to open the front door on Jan. 4, a search began. Dawson arrived at the shelter on Dec. 31 after he was picked up by animal control officers. They had received a call about an abandoned dog in a home, the shelter director said, but they ended up bringing two more — including Dawson — to the shelter. Dawson appeared to be taken care of and did not show signs of neglect.
