I was at a small airport at Helena, MT (HLN) where this woman who checked my bag also scanned my boarding pass and then I saw her operating the de-icing equipment on my plane from my window seat.

Unless you're stuck on the plane waiting for the second turn to get it done.

I can smell through the web.

That isn’t cheap, either. Check out the price of a gallon of antifreeze at your local auto store then multiply that by a few hundred to a few thousand.

I once watched this from inside the plane and it was so satisfying as if I had a Turkish bath with a rub-a-dub-dub myself

It CAN'T be a coincidence that any time anyone posts a clip of a plane being de-iced, the caption says that it's oddly satisfying.

why not under cover at the gate? tug-through plane de-icer like a car wash? huge risk of incomplete clean, or damage this will soon be an AI robot, faster, no error hopefully 100% water recycling with de-icer chemicals Energy waste every day instead of building a solution once.

I've been inside the tail during inspection when dicing hit - totally soaked.

Nope. It means that your plane will depart 45min late...

Don’t forget the pitots!

Early snow?

Why doesn’t he start the ignition and warm it up for 30 min before take off 🙈

De ice

Its water?

Oddly satisfying, until you remember it's the reason your flight is now delayed.

Imagine the spoilers or flaps freeze

De-icing definitely makes a difference in safety... it's fascinating to watch the process unfold.

It truly is!!

Years ago, maybe 15 years, I recall the cost to de-ice was about $5,000 for a narrow-body jet.
