OpenAI Dev Day Just kicked off and it was the biggest day for AI since the launch of GPT-4 in April. Here's a 3 minute video with everything you need to know and a full summary: 1. GPT-4 Turbo is released. It is much better than GPT-4, can accept up to 128k characters and is 3x cheaper. The knowledge cut off is now April 2023 2. Text to Speech is also being released. They offer 6 hyper-realistic voice models that are the best I've heard from any other AI t-t-s software on the market. 3. Copyright Shield. OpenAI will actually defend your legal costs if you get sued for copyright infringement using their API! 4. GPTs. Maybe the most exciting IMHO, you can now create custom "GPTs" by training your own model of GPT and selling it on their store. This will create a massive shakeup of the current AI software landscape and is the first step towards autonomous agents.

I've been using Cline, and they have a feature that actually helps with this: You can click a button and have Cline generate an inline explanation for every single line of AI-generated code. FABLE 5 JUST REBUILT FORTNITE FROM 1 PROMPT IN 20 MINUTES. EPIC NEEDED HUNDREDS OF ENGINEERS AND 6 YEARS. The test was simple: Fable 5 vs GLM 5.2, one prompt each, a 100-player battle royale running in the browser with no engine and no team. GLM went first and checked all 8 milestones. The game loaded with a battle bus, a generated map, Tilted Towers, even health and shield bars ripped straight from 2018. Then it fell apart. 2 FPS on landing, S walking forward and W walking backward, a gun that fires upward and a camera that refuses to look up. First fight ended with the enemy standing above physically impossible to aim at. Then Fable 5 took the same prompt on max effort. Different game entirely. Real character models instead of beans, hit reactions lighting up on contact, a shadow tracking every player, movement that just works out of the box. One follow-up prompt “add more Fortnite elements” and it shipped gliders, chests, shield potions, medkits and a sniper without breaking a thing. Final circle at 3:28 AM. I ditched Unreal for AI. Kaiju Engine is a completely AI written replacement. To prove it was ready for production, I tested it by recreating and porting my old game, Firefall, into Kaiju, purely from the Steam download, no source. And it worked. Real game code is messy, full of difficult details and compromises. If our engine could handle a commercially released game, it proves you can ship a game with it. We're developing 2 orders of magnitude faster (93x) by lines of code and features. We have fewer bugs, and iteration is super fast. Build times have gone from 30 mins (Unreal) to 36 seconds. Feature rate is through the roof, days instead of months. Our original engine for Firefall took 2-3 years and cost over 5M to build (adjusted). Our new engine was written in 5 months for a couple grand. We built only what we needed, with none of the Unreal bloat. And we added some features: - Modern meshlet based rendering with PBR. - Vis Buffer/Forward+ with clustered lighting. - Id Tech 5 style megatexture streaming. - Planetary sized renderer (entire solar systems possible). - Seamless flight from ground to orbit and space. - No loading screens. - Procedural planet generation with plate simulation. - Client/Server at all times. - Ozz for animation. Jolt for Physics. - Companion Blender plug-in for AI directed asset exports. - 140fps currently, 200-300 projected after optimizations. You can see Firefall's assets and levels ported over into our engine in the video. Texture resolution and pop-in are limitations of the original game (high rez CDN based textures were lost when game went offline, fog hid the original's pop-in). Our meshlet renderer will be able to do much better with LOD and already supports high rez textures. I used Grok/Codex/Claude to tag team the code. This is not just a boon for indie games, it's a real game changer for game preservation. The reaction to seeing this 10 year old discontinued game revived is very emotional for Firefall fans. But we're not just preserving Firefall, we're going beyond, creating an original game that is the spiritual successor, Em-8ER. Gliding, jumpjets... it's all coming back. First, one engineer at Cloudflare, working with Claude via AI agents, rebuilt 94% of Next.js, one of the most widely used frontend frameworks on the internet, built over 10 years by a large engineering team in a single week. Total cost was $1,100 in API tokens. The result, called Vinext, is a drop-in replacement that builds production apps up to 4x faster and produces client bundles 57% smaller and customers are already running it in production. Second is Cursor CEO Michael Truell deployed a swarm of hundreds of GPT-5.2 agents that ran uninterrupted for an entire week and built a fully functional web browser from scratch called FastRender. 3 million lines of code, thousands of files and a custom Rust rendering engine with HTML parsing, CSS layout, text shaping, and a custom JavaScript VM. Total cost was roughly $30,000. For context, Google has spent billions of dollars and decades of engineering building Chrome. And the benchmarks say by next year, you will be able to one-shot prompt anything. The moat that software companies spent decades building, the complexity of their codebase, the years it would take a competitor to replicate it, the switching costs that moat assumed humans were the unit of production. AI does not care how long it took you to build it, it only cares how long it takes to rebuild it. And right now, the answer is one week.

Day 6 of building the game I've wanted to play for 15 years with AI. 3D models day. The first castles are in: a Hero Castle and a Human Castle. I'm attaching the build process of one of them, it shows my whole workflow. I took my time with this one and worked the details with soul. Generated separate pieces, assembled them into something I liked, textured the whole thing together, tweaked, polished, dropped it into the game. I can't stop staring at it. This is exactly what I wanted. Added animated flags on top. Ridiculously satisfying to watch. Then fog of war, plus a few mechanics fixes. Fog of war sent me straight back to childhood. I just sat there enjoying it and feeling nostalgic. I needed this part in the game. Also spent time on tree models and a few other assets. I'll show those tomorrow. The visual jump is big. I now simply like everything I see on screen.

✨ I made a little demo of #vibejam sponsor Tripo and how you can use it to generate assets for your games In this case I'm generating an apartment flat that's half destroyed and open for my drone sim to fly around, take cover and shoot at enemies from First I write the prompt and select Nano Banana to generate an image first, I get a few different ones, and I select the one I like Then that one is converted into a 3d object called a Smart Mesh Smart Mesh is different than regular image-to-3d models because usually you get issues with uneven polygon distribution, too dense geometry and poor edge flow, so while you think you save time with generating it with AI you end up doing lots of editing after to fix the topology which kinda defeats the point Smart Mesh doesn't have any of this, it's fast and clean low-poly models you can drop into your game Anyway, after generating the model I can then see it in 3d, and if I don't like it, regenerate it, or if I like it start texturing it Once that's done, I export it as a GLB, FBX or OBJ and drop it in (usually I use GLB as ThreeJS seems to prefer that), in my case I just drop the URL into Cursor and let it figure out the placement of the asset into my game!

It comes down to one test (ARC-AGI 3). It drops a model into a game with no instructions and makes it work them out. Astra solved levels in fewer moves than you or I would, 96% of the time. Claude Opus 5 managed less than half of that. That's why everyone is shouting about AGI again. You can turn this on yourself in about two minutes: 1. Open the ChatGPT desktop app, switch to Work. 2. Go to Plugins, then Computer Use. Install it. 3. Switch on the server and skill toggles. 4. Allow Screen Recording and Accessibility. 5. Point it at one app and ask it do something.
