Deleting a file forever

On Linux the closest built-in equivalent for a specific file is shred -uzn 3 /path/to/file (overwrites, zeros the last pass, then unlinks). for directories use shred -uzn 3 -r /path/to/dir.

On windows when you delete a file even from recycling bin it still keeps it, it just hides it from you till your disk is full. Got to love that feature

Cipher only touches unallocated space on the volume. It does not affect:Volume Shadow Copies / Previous Versions Pagefile, hibernation file, or temporary files that still exist. Other drives, cloud sync copies, backups, or system caches. Allocated files that are still present.
