It is history repeating itself. The far left believes it has found an ally in radical Islam. They march together, chant together, rage together — united by a shared enemy: the West, liberal democracy, Israel. But this alliance has a precedent. Iran. 1979. Marxists, socialists, students, feminists, Islamists — all joined forces to overthrow the Shah. The far left thought the clerics were useful partners. They thought ideology could be negotiated later. They were wrong. Once power was secured, the Islamists turned. Leftist parties were banned. Activists were imprisoned. Thousands were executed. The very people who helped deliver the revolution were slaughtered. This is the pattern. The far left sees Islamism as “resistance.” Islamists see the far left as useful idiots. Temporary allies. Disposable tools. Chanting Islamist slogans does not make you progressive. It makes you historically illiterate. Because radical theocracies do not coexist. They dominate. And when they do, the far left is not spared. It is erased. History is not subtle. It warns first — then it repeats.

What I always notice with politicians is that they can talk comprehensively as to why the ANC and MKP are not right for the country. But when it comes to the EFF, they really have no comprehensive explanation as to what is wrong with it. Hence they can't explain why they left it.
