On this Memorial Day we remember those who have given their lives in the service of this nation, and we hold in our hearts the families and loved ones they left behind. For those of us who wore the uniform in combat, this is a day where we remember our friends and comrades who made the ultimate sacrifice. We remember them as they were: sons and daughters, husbands and wives, mothers and fathers. And we rededicate ourselves to living good lives, not to waste the opportunity to live on they gave us with their sacrifice. The willingness of some young Americans to sign the dotted line and risk their futures for the good of the nation is a resource we must jealously guard. It cannot be abused and squandered by those in power for their own benefit. The best way to honor the dead is to make sure future generations are not sacrificed for no reason. Semper Fidelis.

Special Pastoral Message on Immigration by the Bishops of the United States As pastors, we the bishops of the United States are bound to our people by ties of communion and compassion in Our Lord Jesus Christ. We are disturbed when we see among our people a climate of fear and anxiety around questions of profiling and immigration enforcement. We are saddened by the state of contemporary debate and the vilification of immigrants. We are concerned about the conditions in detention centers and the lack of access to pastoral care. We lament that some immigrants in the United States have arbitrarily lost their legal status. We are troubled by threats against the sanctity of houses of worship and the special nature of hospitals and schools. We are grieved when we meet parents who fear being detained when taking their children to school and when we try to console family members who have already been separated from their loved ones. Despite obstacles and prejudices, generations of immigrants have made enormous contributions to the well-being of our nation. We as Catholic bishops love our country and pray for its peace and prosperity. For this very reason, we feel compelled now in this environment to raise our voices in defense of God-given human dignity. Catholic teaching exhorts nations to recognize the fundamental dignity of all persons, including immigrants. We bishops advocate for a meaningful reform of our nation’s immigration laws and procedures. Human dignity and national security are not in conflict. Both are possible if people of good will work together. We recognize that nations have a responsibility to regulate their borders and establish a just and orderly immigration system for the sake of the common good. Without such processes, immigrants face the risk of trafficking and other forms of exploitation. Safe and legal pathways serve as an antidote to such risks. The Church’s teaching rests on the foundational concern for the human person, as created in the image and likeness of God (Genesis 1:27). As pastors, we look to Sacred Scripture and the example of the Lord Himself, where we find the wisdom of God’s compassion. The priority of the Lord, as the Prophets remind us, is for those who are most vulnerable: the widow, the orphan, the poor, and the stranger (Zechariah 7:10). In the Lord Jesus, we see the One who became poor for our sake (2 Corinthians 8:9), we see the Good Samaritan who lifts us from the dust (Luke 10:30–37), and we see the One who is found in the least of these (Matthew 25). The Church’s concern for neighbor and our concern here for immigrants is a response to the Lord’s command to love as He has loved us (John 13:34). To our immigrant brothers and sisters, we stand with you in your suffering, since, when one member suffers, all suffer (cf. 1 Corinthians 12:26). You are not alone! We note with gratitude that so many of our clergy, consecrated religious, and lay faithful already accompany and assist immigrants in meeting their basic human needs. We urge all people of good will to continue and expand such efforts. We oppose the indiscriminate mass deportation of people. We pray for an end to dehumanizing rhetoric and violence, whether directed at immigrants or at law enforcement. We pray that the Lord may guide the leaders of our nation, and we are grateful for past and present opportunities to dialogue with public and elected officials. We want to thank God for those great men and women who devoted themselves to the service of the nation and in the line of duty, lost their lives while others were maimed or became incapacitated. Some died in the course of battle, some died as a result of injuries sustained in the course of protecting the nation, and they left their loved ones behind. As an institution, the armed forces are very crucial and central to the survival of every nation, and I must admit, like every institution in Nigeria, things have not been well. As a government, we will continue to provide the necessary tools and enabling environment for the Armed Forces to effectively discharge their constitutional responsibilities of protecting the lives and property of citizens in the State. We will continue to honor our fallen heroes who sacrificed for our nation’s security.

This young woman says she doesn’t want to go to heaven for a few reasons. People want to go to heaven because we love Jesus. The issue here is not wanting to go to heaven, it’s not seeing Jesus as enough. If you’re not relieved by the idea of no longer having to bear the burden of sin, then I’m afraid you haven’t understood who you are as a sinner and also the beauty of the gospel and the hope we have in eternity. Heaven will be forever communion with Jesus, the one who died for us and saved us. It’s not heaven you’re not wanting, it’s Christ.

As the United States of America marks the 250th anniversary of our nation’s founding, we have much to be grateful for—but also much to reflect upon. Billy Graham challenged Americans to examine the “stitches” of sin and brokenness that still exist in our nation and reminded us of God’s promise in 2 Chronicles 7:14: “If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” This Fourth of July, as we celebrate God’s faithfulness to our country, may we thank Him for His goodness, seek His forgiveness, and pray for His continued guidance, wisdom and favor for America.

My brothers and sisters, always remember we are transient beings. Every year, 85% of our biomass is exchanged with the world around us, we are living material ghosts of a greater source, our ancestors, and we are eternal in one another. Whatever we create, whatever we learn, whatever we pass on is not ours, nor theirs, we are one single being that shares a single spirit. So individual pride is not only a slight sin, but a disconnection from this spirit and ultimately a lonesome DEATH. Independence is a lie. Interdependence is the truth and what keeps us alive -- and this is what our enemy tries to destroy at every turn, cutting our bonds apart and chaining us together to their demonic machine that is their parasitic siphon. Those who try to undermine this truth and attach us to this system want to kill this spirit by eating it and must be destroyed in their entirety as coexistence with them is impossible. These animists must be treated as we treat mosquitos, one day you will see too that even a slight amount of mercy means betrayal to not only yourself, or your ancestors, but also the future itself. No mercy for demonic parasites. No mercy for the unfaithful cancerous traitors. Eternal life for the spirit that binds us all together. Always have faith, for faith is for the transient people. We will win. Our victory will be so epic it will be written about for 10s of thousands of years to come across the entire universe.

The prayer just said at the Medal of Honor ceremony reminds us of why we can never forget the sacrifce our bravest make to secure our nation: "Almighty God, you are our rock, our fortress, and the sustainer of this nation. Every perfect gift comes from your hand, and we give you glory for the courage you have woven into the soul of our armed forces. You teach us that true devotion is proven in sacrifice, and today, we honor these three patriots who, on the field of battle, proved their devotion to their comrades and their nation. Father, we thank you for Major Dockery, who braved a ferocious ambush and at times shielded his men. For Major Capers, who despite grievous wounds refu- refused to yield, and for the enduring legacy of Colonel Ripley, who through a hail of gunfire halted a massive advance by the enemy. In their heroic actions, we see the living truth of your Word, "Greater love has no one than this, that they lay down their life for their friends." Their profound sacrifice in moments of extreme peril blesses us still today. Now, Lord, we ask you to move in our hearts. Pour your abundant strength into our service members and their families. I’m hearing from first-year students who, while studying for exams in their dorm room, are being confronted with terrifying chants of globalize the Intifada - a call for the murder of Jews. I’m now receiving calls from their parents who are frightened to learn that Hamas supporters are being allowed to camp out in Harvard Yard - in brazen defiance to the university’s explicit guidelines - and are chanting in support of terrorism and call for the murder of Jews. The last two nights at the Harvard Chabad Seder table, along with Jews around the world, we read the words of the Passover Haggadah how “in each and every generation they rise up against us to destroy us. And the Holy One, blessed be He, rescues us from their hands.” That those who seek the destruction of the Jewish people are receiving support from Harvard students and other university students around the country - as we heard today from Hamas, should shake every moral person to their core.
