Shadow Force for the arcade (Technōs/1993). Beat 'em up with complex combat mechanics (6 buttons, with tons of moves, and can even block enemy attacks). You can also 'possess' certain enemy characters and use their own move set, which is quite unique in this genre. A hidden gem that was never ported to home systems.

Burning Fight for the Neo Geo systems (SNK/1991) is a beat 'em up designed as the company's answer to Capcom's Final Fight. Yes, "it's just Final Fight" with issues like enemies that can 'stunlock' you into unavoidable combos, but still there are plenty of good things about it Despite later criticism, the game performed very well commercially during its launch window, featuring strong 16-bit graphical sprites, scaling effects and bosses that stand out adding personality to the game.

Double Dragon (1987) – who was a fan? You play in a post-apocalyptic world as brothers Billy and Jimmy Lee, punching, kicking, and brawling through city slums, factories, and hideouts to rescue Billy's girlfriend Marian from the Black Warriors gang. To this day, one of the best beat 'em ups in co-op mode. The big character sprites, badass soundtrack, and the ability to pick up dropped weapons like baseball bats, whips, and knives made it an excellent game. I wonder if it maybe influenced others like Final Fight or Street Fighter?

At the time, rumors were circulating that the game would be ported to PC, so when it was suddenly announced for the Super Famicom, it came as a huge shock. Although Guy was missing and two-player co-op wasn’t supported, the mere fact that we could play Final Fight at home felt like a blessing in itself. Looking back now, the Super Famicom version was released in December 1990, when the system’s maximum cartridge size was 8 megabits (1 megabyte). Considering that the arcade version had more than twice that amount of data, it seems clear that these limitations led to those difficult compromises. Beat ’em up games were already popular in arcades before Final Fight, but after its release, the genre truly boomed, eventually leading to Capcom’s finest belt-scrolling action titles—culminating in Dungeons & Dragons, the pinnacle of their beat ’em up legacy.

A PlayStation port was reported to be on the works but was never completed.

If you are going through a difficult phase in life, watch RAFA on Netflix. Although, the motivation would be momentary, it would give you hope. You will get to know the absolute limits of a sportspersons will to fight and human determination. Imagine competing at the highest level with a numb foot and still finding a way to win a Grand Slam. You get to see that even the greatest champions struggle with self doubt, pain, pressure, and emotional battles. Must watch! And yes, there will never be any another player like Nadal in history of Tennis. #Rafa.

Metal Slug 6 was released during the series’ 10th anniversary year. It was also the first Metal Slug game to move beyond the Neo Geo platform and launch on the Atomiswave system. Since it came out during a period when the arcade market was already in decline, not many people seem to remember this title today. While the graphics did improve with the platform change, it doesn’t quite capture the finely crafted pixel art style that made Metal Slug 2 and 3 so memorable. In particular, the high-resolution backgrounds can feel a bit awkward because they don’t always blend naturally with the lower-resolution character sprites. The game also introduced Clark and Ralf as playable characters, along with unique special abilities for each character. A new weapon switching system was added as well, allowing players to carry and swap between two weapons. Another feature I thought was a good idea was Easy Mode, where you start with a Heavy Machine Gun by default, although you can’t access the Final Mission. It felt like a nice addition for more casual players.
