Denmark’s PM Mette Frederiksen: I think we made a mistake after the end of the Cold War, reducing our military spending and hoping that if anything happened then the US would come and help us. It's simply the wrong way of looking at yourself, your countries, and your borders. I believe that Europe needs to rearm totally and be totally able to defend ourselves.

Tommy Pigott Tommy Pigott tells me: “This is the result, in large part, due to the deliberate failure of the current Spanish government to secure the border… We do see, looking broadly at mass migration, NGOs that are encouraging mass migration. And we are seeing international bodies that have for years argued and pressured countries to institute policies that facilitate mass migration. Two actions we have taken, from the Trump administration's point on this: First, when it comes to NGOs, making sure that we are not funding NGOs—through foreign assistance or otherwise—that facilitates this mass migration and undermines the national security of the United States. The second is, those international institutions that facilitate mass migration, that try to pressure the United States or other countries to not secure our borders, we are not going to legitimize those international institutions with our presence or with our cash. And we have taken concrete action to withdraw from many of those institutions already. That review is ongoing.”

🇩🇰 PM Frederiksen: What we can see in Ukraine right now is that if you don’t have adequate air defense, you're challenged. If you don’t have drone defense, you're challenged as well. If you can't strike back against ballistic missiles, then people are simply killed. If we're to have ballistic missile defense so that we can protect both Ukraine and potentially our own societies, then we need cooperation across national borders. We can produce quite a lot of the capabilities we need ourselves in Nordic countries, some we can make together with our European allies, and some with allies outside Europe.
