Depeche Mode - Shake The Disease
14 条评论

"Shake the Disease." 1985. The bridge between "Some Great Reward" and "Black Celebration." Most people skip right over it. They shouldn't. This was a non-album single. Released between albums. Martin Gore wrote it during the darkest period of his life. Depression. Self-destruction. The lyrics are a cry for help wrapped in a pop song. "I'm not going down on my knees, begging you to adore me" - that's not romance. That's someone fighting to stay alive. Alan Wilder's production on this is flawless. Listen to the layers. The acoustic guitar buried under synths. The way the drums build. That breakdown at 2:45. Minimalist. Haunting. Perfect. Here's what people don't know: This single kept Depeche Mode alive financially. "Some Great Reward" was successful but not huge. The label was nervous. "Shake the Disease" hit Top 20 in UK. Top 10 across Europe. Bought them time to make "Black Celebration." Without this single, no "Black Celebration." No "Music for the Masses." No "Violator." No stadium tour. The whole trajectory changes. Dave Gahan's vocal is restrained. No histrionics. Just pain delivered straight. That's harder to do than screaming. 1985. Synth-pop was dying. Hair metal was taking over. Depeche Mode released a song about depression and made it a hit. That's why this track matters. It's the moment they stopped being a pop band and became something darker. More honest. More dangerous. "Shake the Disease" doesn't get the respect it deserves. It's the hinge the whole career turns on.

Understand me. Understand me. 🎶

Baby face 🥰

One of my favorite Depeche Mode songs

Really great song 🎵 🎸😊🎶

love

De mis favoritas de esta súper banda 🥰😍

Amo ésta canción 😍

Depeche Mode perfected the model of a charismatic twink frontman singing disturbing lyrics he doesn’t understand that were written by someone else in the band. It’s the perfect mix of hot boy and brain candy.

Cool
