People keep saying “they’re all refugees from war zones” that’s simply not true. Home Office data shows thousands arriving across the Channel are from safe countries. In 2022 alone, over 12,000 Albanians came here by boat, making them the single biggest group. Albania is not war-torn; it’s a NATO candidate country considered safe, add to that significant numbers from India, turkey and vietnam, again none of these are war zones. Yes there are also people from places like afghanistan, iran and sudan, but the idea that every single person arriving is fleeing bombs and bullets is a lie. International law is clear: asylum should be claimed in the first safe country. Yet people travel through france and other safe european nations to reach the uk, not because they’re unsafe there, but because they want to choose britain. Why? Because we don’t have id cards, english is widely spoken, and our system has been too soft for too long. That’s not seeking safety, that’s border shopping. Meanwhile, the cost to the British taxpayer is spiralling out of control. We are now paying £8 million every single day just to house asylum seekers in hotels, with more than 50,000 migrants living in taxpayer funded accommodation. That’s money that could be going to schools, hospitals, and british families who are struggling. And the backlog is massive, hundreds of thousands of claims waiting to be processed, while deportations are minimal. The truth is this: some do come from genuine conflict zones, and britain has always played its part in offering protection. But a very large number are simply economic migrants abusing the asylum system, arriving illegally, and putting unsustainable pressure on our housing, NHS, and communities. If we don’t get control of this, things will only get worse. Deportations back to safe countries aren’t just fair, they’re essential.
