If Russia really wants peace, all Putin has to do is say, "Everybody, back on our side of the border." Trump administration's approach to negotiations has been doomed from the beginning because they always took Russian argument as having validity. That Ukraine should just give up 20% of its territory to appease Russia, when in fact, anybody who understands Russia knows that's not going to actually appease Russia.
