despite knowing he will come back this scene hits me like a ton of bricks each time

the music is one of my favourite pieces from the score and then having each of the fellowships reactions to his death on top of that… possibly my favourite scene in the film?

elijah wood deserves every award just for the way he screamed “no!”

whoa thats crazy but have you heard this?

YOU know he comes back. Gandalf doesn't know. The Fellowship doesn't know. That's why it hits.

It’s so well done. Gets me every time. How they instantly are outside in this WIDE OPEN scene, an enormous mountain full of rocks and empty space: grief. But only briefly because war waits for no one. Just love these films so much!!

Gandalf didn’t know he was going to come back. He’d accepted his fate after the fight with the Balrog just to basically be told ‘Nah bro your job isn’t done’ and was yanked back to life as Gandalf the White

Every time. One of the most perfect scenes in cinema history.

He knew he was going to have to fight the Balrog. That’s why he wanted Aragorn to lead them on. I did love how Borromir grabbed Frodo and carried him away. Almost like a father carrying his son. Everyone was absolutely crushed when they lost Gandalf. Or thought they had. ❤️

I made my 10 year old sister cry uncontrollably cause I made her watch lotr and she’s never heard of it outside of me 😭😭 sorry queen I can’t spoil u

@melanistickitty We know he comes back, but Boromir never does, and Sam and Frodo don't find out until the very end.

the grief is still too near
