Nah, purposely overemphasizing German to make it sound really bad.

I worked for a Dutch dude and overheard him talking to his father on the phone one day, turned to look at him with a "WTF?" look on my face, he smiled, hung up the phone, and I said, "What was THAT?". "Dutch"

It’s crazy hot many different languages are spread across such a small area. Maybe being from the US just makes it different

Oh yeah. When I am out and about I like to try to guess the languages in use around me. Quite a few I know and a lot more that I do not know, but it is fun to guess.

For some reason, I took German in 7th grade & so did my ' to this day' best friend. Neither one of us is German. At 70 we can still recite a couple of monologues from class. I can still sing the Alphabet song.😋 Thanks for the memory!

Russian too! Watched a movie in Russian (English subtitles of course) and I realized I will never be able to speak that language even with 5 years of classes. Don't even get me started on the cursive part of their written language... 😳

Do they still teach cursive in Russia? After years of school my cursive and even signature are terrible

I'm not sure, but it appears so from what I read. I saw it in the movie I was watching which was a period piece, and I was amazed by how different it was to their printed language.

@RareImagery Our cursive dates back to the days of origin of our alphabet. The print version was made to accommodate the requirements of the first printing presses, hence the astronomical differences between the two. That's also why the printed one has more similarities to Latin letters.

The joke... time is short, tell people you love them...but do it in German so it unnerves them a little bit.

Naturally, any language sounds ugly when shouted—artificial exaggeration makes it twice as dreadful. But German is clever and agile. Not always elegant, yet once mastered, its logic is stunning.
