Developers are sitting on land to boost profits. This is a crisis that's holding up housebuilding. Ripping up nature protections won't solve this problem.

We do not need thousands of unaffordable shoddily built houses. We need to utilise the houses we have and build more social homes, in proper harmony with nature. Here are some very well informed people discussing what we need, and don't need, to do:

If this were true, how come repeated inquiries have failed to show up any evidence over the last 2-3 decades? Developers make money from selling houses. Period. Shock Horror.

We need social housing, not more private houses that no one will be able to afford.

Clive, that's not actually what land banks do. The only way housing developers make profits is by selling houses.

Before planning approval a plot sufficient for 1 house has a value of £8-10k. After planning approval say £150k. The community grant that approval but the landowner takes the uplift, thereby increasing house prices. The uplift should go to the community who grant the approval.

We should introduce Land Value Tax. #Georgism

WHAT ABOUT THE EMPTY HOUSES? NO INFRASTRUCTURE COST. RING FENCE BUDGET FROM PRIVATE INTERESTS. I am heartily sick of making this point

If you weren’t a communist then you might understand how a property developer makes money. They do it through a thing called profit. If they can’t make a profit then they won’t build a house. Stamping your feet won’t change that.

Nice belly-button.
