Matt Damon has said repeatedly over the course of promoting The Odyssey that making Christopher Nolan’s latest film was the most physically demanding role Damon’s ever handled. I find that surprising considering Damon was literally Jason Bourne. The Bourne franchise has never and may never receive the attention it deserves. Damon’s physicality in this role is off the charts.

I’m excited to see some of the set pieces Nolan executes in The Odyssey, including the way in which Nolan brings the Trojan Horse to life. Nolan brought the Batmobile to life in the best way possible, which is just one example of Nolan’s excellence.

Christopher Nolan’s next film is only 63 days away but the doubters are out in full force- you can hear them from miles away. I’d like to offer an olive branch to those questioning Nolan in this moment: there’s still time for you to reverse course & stop doubting Nolan. I’m truly surprised by how many have suggested that The Odyssey could be a full-blown failure. The “bust potential” conversations around this film are growing, albeit needlessly. Many have criticized Nolan’s casting decisions & creative decisions- without even seeing the film. This is all without mentioning that Nolan just won multiple Oscars- he just gave us an immediate classic with Oppenheimer. Doesn’t that mean he gets the benefit of the doubt? Shouldn’t people hold their reservations until they see Nolan’s vision through? It doesn’t make any sense to me. Let this be a line of demarcation. 63 days out from The Odyssey, if you’re one of those folks doubting/questioning Nolan, this might be one of your last chance to be on the right side of history when Nolan drops another classic.

It's so obvious." "Why is it that critic reviews are separated from audience reviews? Why are they given a DEI category?" He’s one of the leads in Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, out next Friday, and two weeks later he’s back as Peter Parker in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. I saw Interstellar in IMAX just before Christmas ‘24. Sold out theater. Not a phone in sight. You could hear people crying. It was one of the most impactful theater experiences I’ve ever had even though I’ve seen the movie countless times. It’s a reminder that going to the movies is an event- it’s something you remember. 17 days until Christopher Nolan’s next film.

Love Ryan Coogler geeking out with Maggie Gyllenhaal over THE DARK KNIGHT. He also reveals he watched the film at 4am in IMAX like a boss. Those of us who remember THE DARK KNIGHT release, it was complete madness getting tickets. I saw it at like midnight at some random theater in Queens because it was all I could get. Even then, I still had to get there 3 hours early since reserved seating wasn’t as standard then as it is now. If you wanted to see the film in IMAX, good luck. You were likely seeing it in the middle of the night. Coogler was just like the rest of us, pulling an all-nighter to experience Nolan’s masterpiece the way the filmmaker intended. Years later Coogler would go on to direct several films in IMAX, including one that made history as the most nominated film ever at the Oscars… SINNERS. We’re all just dorky movie nerds at the end of the day…
