Quentin Taratino said Lawrence Fishburne’s performance in King of New York was so incredible he thought - “he could be the greatest actor of his generation”. He explains: "As great as Christopher Walken is in this movie. To me, it's Larry Fishburne's movie - it was the rock that becomes a diamond aspect of the movie. It's why I could defend this movie against all comers, because to me, Fish's performance in this movie was comparable to a young Brando. It was the most exciting performance by an actor of his generation that I'd seen in a movie of that time. And I thought, well, that's it. There is a new Marlon Brando, and his name is Larry Fishburne - it was amazing, it was mesmerizing… He is the first hip hop gangster in movie history. That character had never been done before this. He invented that character. And he invented it as something to do. It wasn't in the original script. He came up with that himself… The three big Fishburne moments to me, is his opening sequence with…Tito. That's it, with Tito - black glove dude. And his reunion with Frank. And then it's the chicken scene (see below). Those are his three big arias. Not only that though - expressions that I would later hear for the rest of the decade, I actually heard for the first time in that scene. I'd never heard the expression; “I'll slap the black off you” before. That was the first time I heard it when Fish says it to Snipes. I've since heard it many times… And that was actually the first time I ever heard, “fuck you very much”. And I would proceed to hear that for the rest of the 90s. In fact, Shah Rukh was the one who called Saif to inform about the script that they were developing at Red Chillies. "He said, ‘There’s a lovely script, and I would like you to hear it, and do it’. While it was nothing special at the time, it has since grown some historical significance, as Walt Disney himself was filmed recording his lines as Mickey Mouse for it, making it one of the only times he was shown doing his voice on camera. Alongside him is actor Billy Bletcher the voice of Pete.

Jack Black and Lawrence jam out to “Touch Me” by The Doors during the film School of Rock. This is such a great scene and one of our favorites from this movie. This song, along with many of the other songs, were much easier to obtain and use for the film as opposed to one certain song. This song was “Immigrant Song” by Led Zeppelin. This song took some serious perseverance to get for the movie as Led Zeppelin have been notoriously selective about licensing their songs in the past for films and television. Back in 2003, School of Rock star Jack Black recorded a heartfelt plea in front of a live audience where he begged Led Zeppelin to give its blessing. Calling them “the gods of rock” and “the greatest band of all time,” he told the musicians that “this is a movie about rock. And without that song, this movie will crumble into smithereens.” It worked, and the rights were granted. Black hasn’t been the only one who has stuck his neck out to get Zeppelin’s mythical music in their movies and even if you do get their blessing, the price tag usually comes in the 7 figure range. Another movie that was lucky enough to get Immigrant Song was “Thor: Ragnarok” and Disney wasn’t able to do this without digging deep into their pockets. According to sources, Disney paid anywhere from $1.4 million to $3 million for the song to be included in this movie. With amazing music, comes a hefty price tag. In the words of Jack Black, don’t ever be too proud to beg for something you truly want and need. Enjoy!

Kenneth Branagh's #Cinderella (2015) remains my favorite Disney live-action remake, and this particular scene is exactly why the remake justifies its existence and deserves to sit among the very best of the Cinderella library. The Prince actually joins the search for Ella in disguise instead of simply waiting in the castle. Along the way, he confirms his suspicions about the Grand Duke's dishonesty when he catches him trying to abandon the search after hearing Ella singing. Even better, he personally witnesses the Stepmother's cruelty when she's exposed right in front of him and the guards accompanying him in disguise. This change adds so much more depth and personality to the Prince, making him feel like an active participant in the story rather than someone who just waits for fate to reunite him with Ella. It also makes their romance feel much more mutual, since he's willing to go out and search for her himself. Now that's how you expand a relationship in a live-action remake without betraying what made the original so timeless! Oh my god, I can't stress enough how perfectly everyone in this movie was cast. From the performances to the writing, cinematography, costumes, production design, the beautiful score, and Branagh's elegant direction, nearly every aspect of the filmmaking feels close to perfection. Like I've said before, it feels like a whimsical, Jane Austen-esque fairy tale brought to life. I still remember seeing this movie in theaters, and when the Prince finally revealed himself during the slipper search, everyone in the audience gasped. It was such a satisfying payoff because, for the first time, he wasn't just waiting for Ella to come back to him, he had been there all along, determined to find her himself. It's one of these moments that perfectly captures why this remake works so well. I've watched this movie so many times, which, of course, is a rarity for me when it comes to Disney's live-action remakes. Every time a mediocre one comes out, I always find myself returning to Cinderella. It reminds me what a genuine, sincere live-action remake looks like when it's made with real care and respect for the original while still finding meaningful ways to expand on it. If this movie is in your favorites or your Letterboxd Top 4, you have my respect. Hats off to everyone who worked on this movie 🥰

If you add it all up, the outcome = disaster. I’ve said it before & I’ll continue to say it as long as I run this account: Disney is burning money making live-action remakes. There’s never been a live-action remake better than the animated version. This is just more evidence.
