We don’t see them out giving newspaper articles, talking about their ‘right to buy sex’. I’ve saved this clip from 2024. Maybe you’re a parent that needs to hear it now and maybe you’re a parent that needs to bookmark it for later to come back to. Either way if you have watched your child sacrifice the norms to not be of the norm and watched them fall short you can relate. For those that aren’t at this level yet- remember every match/game/point is big to them in moment and I think we minimize that thinking we are helping them when in reality we are protecting our own self from the hurt we feel when our child is hurting. Struggle and failure are life’s biggest teaching tools. They are also some of the most painful to go through, but more so to watch someone you love go through. I hope this helps some parents- now or in the future or even those parents of kids at the younger ages. Hopefully you focus on building healthy relationships with your kids over their win loss record. Hopefully you are praising them not only in their successes, but also in their failures of trying so they continue to just that- try.

People think Mike not wanting to take 3s was because, “hE SuCkEd at ShoOtInG tHeM” 3 point shooting is NOT hard that is why the ENTIRE league shoots them now at a decent clip. If you care and practice enough, you can be good at them. I can literally go into a gym right now without any warm up and hit 20/25 3s. I hoop once a week. Now imagine the greatest competitor the game has ever seen focus on training his 3?! I am GLAD Mike didn’t focus on his 3s and he was elite in EVERY other aspect of his game.
