I’ve been using the early version of Naval's new app Airchat for a year. Last week it went viral. And with it the haters came out in full force. Here’s why I’m still bullish on Airchat and believe it will change social media forever: 💬 Talk with real people: Twitter is the closest app to Airchat right now. But it’s completely impersonal. I’ve already built stronger connections with people on Airchat than I have from years of using Twitter. 🎤 Transcription is awesome. Voice notes are long. You don’t know if they're relevant. Having a text version of the voice note to scan makes it easier to find relevant content. 🗣️ Transcription supports multiple languages. I can record in Hebrew, and you’ll read it in English. It works great! Try it! 👥 Groups: launched this week. This focuses discussions around specific topics. Can’t wait to see more of this in the weeks ahead. 🏆 Talk to people you couldn't in other settings. Part of this is because it's so early. But you can speak to people like Naval that you wouldn't have been able to speak to otherwise. And a response to the haters: “It’s just Clubhouse” It’s not. Saying it’s Clubhouse is like saying Zoom is Clubhouse. Or a Podcast is Clubhouse. Clubhouse is sync. Airchat is async. Clubhouse is 1:many. Airchat is 1:1. “It’ll die down. Certain settings are meant for talking, others aren’t. Airchat is about conversations with people. You can’t do Zoom meetings everywhere either. “Twitter conversations are also conversations” Yes, but they’re far less intimate. You’re talking to a wall of text, not a person. You don’t date over text, you date over voice. It’s more intimate. You’re talking to a real person. “The content is boring” It will improve over time. There will be more content. The algorithm will improve to show you the best content. Groups will allow you to find specific content you're interested in. “I prefer Twitter” Good. Use Twitter. I use it too. “The hype will die down” Probably. But what’s that matter to you? You’ll only use apps that have 100m DAU? Awakening means the realisation that much of the reality presented to you is a Lie. Critical thinking is the repetition of asking ‘how’ & ‘why’ until any given concept makes sense. With these two points in mind let me pose a question to you all…..(many will be triggered by the question alone) We are told the Universe is expanding at 160,000mph & that the Great Pyramids are 4,500 years old (other estimates suggest up to 10,000 years). The pyramids were constructed to align with 3 stars that sit across the constellation Orion’s Belt. Many other famous archeological landmarks are also aligned with stars. ALL these landmarks still to this very day perfectly align with the same stars, in exactly the same way since their inception. WHY if the universe is expanding at this extraordinary rate, & therefore both Earth & stars are accelerating at different trajectories - do they still align perfectly today, just as they did thousands of years ago? Regardless of how big the Universe may or may not be - surely this velocity & period of time would mean a change of position, even if ever so slight - would it not? It’s a fair question I think & look forward to your answers……

Apparently, I saw this video online and I decided to share. What this worker is applying is called bitumen, or what many of us know as bituminous coating. Most people think a wall is a solid, impenetrable block, but in reality, it is more like a sponge. Concrete and blocks have microscopic pores that pull water from the earth through a process we call capillary action. This thick black substance is the shield that stops that water from climbing up into the house. It is not about making the wall look good because this part will be buried under the dirt forever. It is about creating a skin that water cannot breathe through. When do you need to do this? The need for this arises because the soil is a very aggressive environment. Water is not your only enemy.. The ground also contains salts and sulfates that want to eat away at the cement. If this moisture finds its way to the steel bars inside the columns, those bars will start to rust. And when steel rusts, it expands, and that expansion is what cracks the concrete from the inside out. This coating is the only thing standing between your foundation and that kind of slow destruction. Thats is why if you see wet patches at the bottom of your walls inside your house, it usually means someone skipped this step or did it poorly during construction. You can apply this anytime you are building parts of a structure that will stay in contact with the ground. It is common in areas where the water table is high or where the soil stays damp for most of the year. This is a one-shot opportunity. Once you backfill the soil, you can never go back to fix it without a lot of expense and a lot of digging. It is about having the foresight to protect the heart of the building while it is still exposed. Please don’t ignore this if you need to. If you ignore it now to save a bit of money, you will be funding the future decay of your own home. I hope this helps.

Yesterday Willis made the surprise comment that splitting up the supermarket duopoly ( a NZ First policy) has merit and she’s considering it. Willis is another senior Nat who based on the last one year of polling will be out on her ass along with Bishop. Speculation around the beltway is Bishop is building support to roll Luxon for Willis : something that will save both their jobs, they’re probably get a bit of a lift with a leadership change but still - essentially it’s still a crap party who are solely to blame for Labour being even remotely competitive. Reading the comments on this post told me everything I need to know about art. So many of you wrote to say you felt the exact same thing I did standing in front of the Starry Night. That strange pull, the sense that the painting is somehow alive... It turns out the feeling is completely universal. I am not someone who gets emotional easily. But every so often a piece of art really gets to me. And that is exactly what happened the first time i walked up to Van Gogh's magnum opus. I know how that sounds, it is one of the most famous paintings on earth, almost a cliché to be moved by it. But maybe it is that famous for a reason... It genuinely looks like it is moving while you stand there, shifting in a way I cannot explain and have never seen in any of the thousands of paintings I have looked at in my life. The same day I took the photo below, I also filmed this short video. It still comes nowhere near the real thing, but you can at least catch a little more of it here, the thick ridges of paint, the way the stars and swirls lift right off the canvas. This technique is called "impasto", from the Italian for mixture. It means paint laid on so thickly that every brushstroke and ridge stays visible on the surface. Van Gogh piled it on with a loaded brush, building the stars up thick so they would blaze as bright as possible against the dark. But no video and no explanation of technique can really convey what it feels like to stand in front of it. And the fact that so many of you felt the very same thing says something true about what art is really for. Tolstoy said it best: "The receiver of a true artistic impression is so united to the artist that he feels as if the work were his own and not someone else’s, as if what it expresses were just what he had long been wishing to express. A real work of art destroys, in the consciousness of the receiver, the separation between himself and the artist. In this uniting of it with others lies the great attractive force of art."

Played Kingdoms of the Dump for 30 hours, here is my review: -The game is a loving homage to classic SNES RPGs like Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy, perfectly capturing their atmosphere -A tactical turn-based combat system with active elements, reminiscent of Super Mario RPG or more recently Expedition 33 -One of the most unique settings ever in an RPG -Incredible variety of enemies, all beautifully rendered in pixel art (boss design by Look Outside pixel artist) -The game is divided into multiple acts, taking you through a wide variety of regions and kingdoms -It’s full of charm and incredible attention to detail. Heal with rotting items, fight flying jellyshorts, and save using toilet paper rolls on toilets. Just lovely. -Fun fact: Game is made by 2 real janitors -The original soundtrack is an absolute banger, instantly transporting you back to the SNES era -There’s a Mode 7-style overworld that you can explore on foot, on a mount, or by airship -The overworld invites exploration and is packed with secrets and hidden areas -What brings the game into the modern era is a dedicated jump button. You can jump pretty much anywhere and explore the world on entirely new levels -There are also various characters, each with unique abilities outside of combat, and you can switch between them at any time -Characters are just lovely -The game is wonderfully written and well paced, full of great story moments and twists, but it’s only available in English at the moment -I would compare the difficulty to Chrono Trigger. It’s challenging but never unfair, and grinding is never necessary -If you die in a battle, you can retry it immediately -Enemies are visible before battle and can be avoided -Fast battles, quick in and out -Various battle themes -Fallen characters and those outside your active party still gain experience -The game is pure indie at heart, over eight years in the making and packed with content -Lots of side quests -Dedicated character quests that explore each character’s backstory -Secret weapons and bosses -Dungeons with puzzle elements -25 hours of story content (more with side stuff) -Only 20 bucks (discount right now) -Great on Steam Deck -Full controller support -Sometimes the jumping sections demand too much precision -I ran into a few bugs during my playtime. The game froze, I got stuck in walls, the music sometimes cut out, and I wasn’t able to use an item at one point -I reached out to the developers, and they have already responded with multiple updates Kingdoms of the Dump is a love letter to an era that produced some of the greatest RPGs of all time. It’s a modern classic, only held back by some technical issues. For me, it’s the best SNES game that was never actually released on a Super Nintendo. I mean you do have a very good point, however I hope you can understand where I come from. (Sorry I’m advance for the long tweet back) This is exactly what I use to do when I was their age. We didn’t have the luxury of an independent scene we do now and even if we did I was 14 years old, I was only allowed to go to a training school to learn the basics. But I had an enormous passion for the business & if I wasn’t allowed to work shows I’d do it myself. - and I’d argue that because of this I had a head start on a lot of the people I trained with when I finally turned 18 From there I’ve been lucky enough to have the support of friends, peers & fans to push me into what I am today. The fact I’ve still had that same style for now 17 years and this is my first surgery, I think I’ve looked after my body. Think about it 17 years this is my first major injury. You think this is stupid, I would say it’s equally as stupid as to fall off a scaffolding breaking both your legs. And while I’m sure there’s a few people that wished you landed on your head, I for one hope you’re doing well & not in too much pain from your injury. But to me, it showed the care that you have for the industry at that time. I see myself in these guys that are finding any outlet to do what they love. Their bumps are solid & basing is great. Like I said I understand there is a level of danger doing this so I hope none of them get hurt but I can’t help but root for these guys and hope I one day see them in a ring. Once again sorry for the long arse tweet and hope the message finds you well boss.
