This is St Augustine and is not an overwhelmingly useful theodicy. Even Augustine moved away from this idea later in his life. Privation is trendy but not theologically or philosophically viable if you explore it logically. Just do some homework on it and you will find most scholars today left privation theory long ago. Too many flaws.

If God created everything, then he must have created evil too. So, does that make him a really bad architect or just a misunderstood artist?

Good can't exist without evil, dark can't exist with light, positive with a negative, something without nothing, god created a duality based creation.
