He argues that building their whole story on that claim was not just wrong, but strategically stupid. "Roughly 1,200 people were killed on October 7th. About 400 of those people were combatants, and about 800 were civilians. On the other hand, I'm not seeing compelling evidence that contradicts the claim that, overwhelmingly, the deaths that occurred on October 7th are attributable to Hamas and other armed groups in Gaza. On the more local level, I would say the main claim which does not hold up against the evidence, basically because there is no evidence, is the claim that Hamas weaponized rape on October 7th. However horrendous things happened on October 7th, you did not need to die on the hill of mass rape. They chose that hill to die on. There's no evidence that even one rape occurred on October 7th."
