Did officials get this right or did they go too far?

When celebrating a victory or score became "unsportsmanlike", was around the same time the losing team received trophies too. That's when the pussies took over. js

I think YOU have it right! Athletic competitions are based on rules & discipline. If he was NOT warned, this some bullshit, if warned, he took a gamble & lost.

What this post isn’t telling you is that he was warned once already during the meet not to do that and he did it again anyway. That’s why he was disqualified.

Heard his team received previous warnings. BUT, also heard that other schools did the same, and not all of them got warned. He made a non-vulgar gesture (thinking of other vids I've seen of kids sports). Also it didn't seem to be antagonistic... penalty a bit harsh I think.

They made the rules to prevent the growing need for “some athletes” to taunt other athletes during competition. Everyone knows taunting results in arguments and fights. He felt the need to do it anyway. He made a decision. It cost his team a win in the most popular event and a championship. Hopefully he attends a school that allows taunting in the future so he can make bad decisions without consequence.

You right Sir, if he was warned before then it was justified but he wasn’t warned before then that’s a whole different problem

It's not an attack on race; it's an attack on success. They don't want losers to feel bad, and they want to vilify successful people. It comes from Marxists.

Muhammad Ali popularized disrespecting your opponents in sports.

This also would have been the third championship in a row , not 5th , Also this runner had a problem with taunting throughout the track season , Their are videos of it , It has to do with rule violation , not racsim

You should read the whole thing. The reason why he was deed was he was told not to do it and he did it anyway.. obviously in previous places they’ve had issues so before the race the officials told him not to do it and he did it anyway. That is his fault.

The first and second violation were baseless. The kid did nothing wrong 100%. Track is a beautiful sport of who is faster A to B. He and his team was faster. Period end of story. Ran track and sports all my life. Coached track for a few years. I would have gave the kid a hug at the end of both those races and would have not reprimanded any of his actions. Cause there is clearly nothing to reprimand.

Sportsmanship is still a thing you get warned more than once you shouldn't be surprised when you get disqualified after doing the same thing you were warned about

I appreciate that you are open minded and not jumping into decisive conclusions. If he was warned it should stand period. No discussion. If he wasn’t, I still don’t think he automatically should get a pass. My thoughts… First let’s discuss racism. In today’s climate we just jump that conclusion way too easy. It’s decisive and destructive. Even though I vehemently disagree with racism of any kind. White to black or black to white. It is also worth noting. This was a black athlete and a black judge. So the racism argument just doesn’t hold much water. As a high school track athlete myself (forever ago) and a fan of the sport. It is a very very well known no no to celebrate on the tract, especially while the race is still going on. Side note: I dont believe he was holding up 5 fingers for 5 chips. I believe it was the “you are in my rearview mirror TAUNT. Now, I dont know that for sure and I won’t pretend to know what his motives or thought were. But either way it is strictly forbidden. It boils down to selfishness and a lack of self control. A healthy society requires rules, and the following of rules. It is well documented that the people that have trouble following simple, easy rules, will struggle with the more difficult and necessary rules need for that healthy society. It is a rough lesson for sure, but one that would make that young man and society better off.

He won the race. He didn’t cheat. His hand gesture wasn’t over the top or disrespectful or offensive. He, and his school deserve the championship. If it’s awarded to another school, that school will always know they didn’t earn it. It was handed to them on a technicality.

All depends on whether he was warned or not.

No matter what, where or even the sport, If you celebrate on the field BEFORE THE ACTION IS EVEN COMPLETED, you are arrogant and that is completely outside sportsmanship. Good call... Whining about consequences.... Deal with it! Learn from the consequences.

Idiot people making idiotic rules that only idiots mandate. Winners are not followers. They are Leaders. Too many feel good rules will only soften the Leaders. Rules are meant to be broken by leaders.

Good to see you Sir! Thank you for speaking up 🇺🇸

It wasn’t a race impedance, nor directed at any runner.. removing a state champion title from someone and handing it to someone else hurts more than helps them. The whole track team lost that title.

Im going to say it ,its to many women in power and they find everything offensive cause they are poor

Always told my kids to act like you've been there before. You can't get penalized if you don't try something. Doesn't matter if it's right or wrong or any other adjective you put in there. His individual actions cost his team the race and the title! Celebrate off the field allday

I think it's completely ridiculous to disqualify that man for something that insignificant If it's that big of a deal reprimand him or something. But to take accomplishment away that he earned is disgusting.

Absolute bullshit. He can celebrate all he fucking wants. He never got aggressive. He wasn't vulgar. He gestured the number 5. Absolutely pathetic

I’d say “follow the rules” but considering these are the same assholes that let boys compete against girls, screw the rules.

He'd already been warned earlier in the meet. Disregarded their warning. Was it heavy handed? Probably Should he have listened after the warning knowing the consequences? Definitely

The kid rocked it Nothing he did was excessive He was merely acknowledging the fifth championship as he crossed the finish line in a very toned down manner The officials went too far in their reach and should never be allowed to participate again

What’s the difference between holding up five fingers and a fist pump? Holding up 5 fingers isn’t taunting or threatening such as a throat slash gesture. I don’t understand why he’s not allowed to do it? Who determines which gestures are accepted and which aren’t?

The problem is they should not tell people that they cannot celebrate a win now no matter what sport you play you celebrate if you’re boxing and you win the championship you celebrate it’s not bad sportsmanship to celebrate stop the BS

Truth be told, so what he raised his hand. He’s happy he won. WTAF!?

That the rear view mirror jesture he was taunting and had been already warned. He got the luxury like others to be warned the first time the 2nd time they acted!

They went too far. The officials have no place on who wins the state championship unless there's something majorly wrong. That's not a major infraction, that's there ego that they won 5 in a row . Pure jealousy!

The fact that plenty of other teams were doing the exact samw thing or similar & no one else was disqualified shows a level of bias. Rules aren't subjective. If you're gonna penalize one...then penalize all who did the same thing!!

Another narcissistic black athlete who makes it all about him, celebrates too early and screws over the whole team, you see it in football over and over. The most selfish narcissistic “me me me me, all about gots to get mines, me me me”. I’m glad they lost.

What's the big deal about what he did? I don't get it.

It’s not racism but it’s fucking wrong.! They won. Definitely challenge the ruling. Hold g up a hand is nothing. Normally you finish the race and just congratulate the others but this was nothing. It’s stupid.
