That group chat? It included an uncensored journalist, a bunch... of Pentagon staffers, and a whole lot of deleted messages. According to a Pentagon Inspector General report, Hegseth shared the number of planes and exact strike timing. He can technically declassify military info, but that's not the point. The point is, there are actual policies that say: don’t use personal devices, don’t use Signal, and definitely don’t invite reporters to pre-war huddles. Hegseth did all three before the bombs dropped. No one got hurt and the mission wasn’t blown, but the report makes it clear: if this info had leaked, American pilots could’ve been shot down. The Inspector General even said this kind of recklessness "could cause harm" to U.S. personnel. But hey, at least the Signal chat auto-deleted most of it, which is also illegal under federal record-keeping laws. The Pentagon's internal watchdog has determined that Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth jeopardized sensitive military information and could have endangered American service members when he shared certain details about U.S. military operations in Yemen in a private Signal group chat earlier this year, according to a U.S. official and a person familiar with the report's findings. "Did it ultimately endanger lives? No. But in the future, I would have a better practice, to go under, to make sure these communications are secure, so they don't leak to the public," said Rep. Michael McCaul (R-TX) of the incident. "You don't want to give the enemy advance warning of your intentions, especially a strike such as this one."
