It is correct that the brain itself does not feel pain, as it lacks pain receptors. The sensation of headache arises from surrounding tissues, including the scalp, blood vessels, meninges (protective layers around the brain), nerves, and muscles. When these structures are stretched, inflamed, or compressed, they send pain signals to the brain via the trigeminal nerve and other cranial nerves. Common triggers include stress, dehydration, poor posture, and changes in blood vessel dilation. In conditions like migraines, abnormal brain activity can lead to the release of chemicals that irritate these structures, causing pain, nausea, and sensitivity to light or sound. The type and location of headache pain vary depending on which structures are affected and the underlying cause.
