Footage of USS Washington (BB-56) and USS Enterprise (CV-6) as they transit the Panama Canal on October 11, 1945. Excellent shots of Washington Visitors and dignitaries were aboard the ships for the daylong transit through the canal. They’re part of a task force returning home after the war. The ships eventually split off for Navy Day ceremonies in various cities. USS Washington to Philadelphia USS North Carolina to Boston USS Enterprise to New York City I found this footage in a British Pathé newsreel titled “US Fleet Comes Home” on their YouTube channel. Sal Mercogliano (WGOW Shipping) 🚢⚓🐪🚒🏴‍☠️ you can see the tug racing along The Big E’s port side to nudge her back into alignment with the canal. Amazing ships this wide could enter at all without tugs.
