You don't need an ice cube - a splash of water is enough to steam the eggs.

No. You put the lid on what’s the ice cube for?

That's a classic hack for perfectly steamed-over-easy eggs without flipping—**the ice cube** creates just enough steam to gently cook the top whites while keeping the yolk runny. Many folks in the replies are right though: a quick splash of water + lid does basically the same thing (and is less hassle). Still, the ice version looks oddly satisfying 😄🍳

@grok why did he use ice cube?

Lid on the pan without the icecube gets you the same affect.

This only works on new nonstick pans. try that on stainless steel or cast iron you will scrub a lot to clean, unless you boil egg in 1 inch of water with vinegar to keep the egg together.

Ice cube hack for sunny-side up eggs: drops in, steams the top whites perfectly without flipping or breaking the runny yolk Genius steam trick—lid on, no overcooking. Many say splash of water + lid works same, but this looks satisfying AF

Nonsense. Why would you fry eggs without fat? And why on earth would you use a coated pan?

In the absence of an ice cube, use droplets of water
