Altered Beast was so popular that you could find at least one cabinet in almost every arcade. You started out as a weak, skinny character, but as you collected more orbs, you became increasingly muscular. After the final power-up, you transformed into a powerful beast and tore through enemies with ease. That transformation and the sheer satisfaction of wiping out everything in your path made the game unforgettable. 💪

So, I kind of did a thing. I know some hate it, but it's always had a special place in my heart. I really appreciated John Tobias 's vision and what he did with this game. Though it was intended as a home game, it is now immortalized in arcade form. #mortalkombat

Metal Slug 6 was released during the series’ 10th anniversary year. It was also the first Metal Slug game to move beyond the Neo Geo platform and launch on the Atomiswave system. Since it came out during a period when the arcade market was already in decline, not many people seem to remember this title today. While the graphics did improve with the platform change, it doesn’t quite capture the finely crafted pixel art style that made Metal Slug 2 and 3 so memorable. In particular, the high-resolution backgrounds can feel a bit awkward because they don’t always blend naturally with the lower-resolution character sprites. The game also introduced Clark and Ralf as playable characters, along with unique special abilities for each character. A new weapon switching system was added as well, allowing players to carry and swap between two weapons. Another feature I thought was a good idea was Easy Mode, where you start with a Heavy Machine Gun by default, although you can’t access the Final Mission. It felt like a nice addition for more casual players.

Let me introduce Altered Beast, one of Sega’s classic arcade games. If you’re in your 40s and spent any time in arcades, you’ve probably seen it at least once—more likely many times. When you defeat the white wolf, it drops an orb. When you collect it, you hear the famous “Power up!” voice and the main character starts becoming more muscular. After the third power-up, he finally transforms into a beast, gaining incredible strength. That transformation is really the core of the game. Another fun part is that each stage lets you transform into different beasts like a werewolf, dragon, tiger, or bear. I had a lot of fun playing it in arcades back then. Later it was ported to the Mega Drive and also to the Famicom. But the Famicom version was a bit disappointing compared to what I expected. The transformation animation is one of the highlights of the game, but it’s missing there, so it doesn’t quite capture the same impact as the arcade version.

Like every nearly every MOBA ever has a hook hero hook hero inherently no one likes getting hooked Like it sucks but it's also one of those things where it's like oh **** they got this character I gotta look out for this Like it's stuff that like adds to the you know overall experience to where I don't think you want to remove these things because you know the downside is that if you remove everything that annoys you you get this like very sanded out overly like you know all the rough edges are gone and then the gameplay just feels very samey and boring you know?" The gameplay was simple to grasp, yet the skill ceiling was surprisingly high. You had to carefully judge enemy movement, shot trajectories, and your own positioning to avoid getting hit. Younger generations will probably never come across it - and if they did, they’d likely laugh at its primitive graphics.
