As someone who lobster dove commercially in Florida I can say I've never seen a lobster just sitting out on the sand in shallow water. I suspect the guys had been lobster diving earlier and that lobster was in the cooler for a few hours and dropped overboard as a party trick.

When I was in the Navy I was stationed in Virginia and lived on the Chesapeake Bay and had a black lab. I used to take him crabbing all the time. I was using a chicken bone on a string. As soon as threw it out he would dive down and bring back the chicken neck…frustrating! After see me pull in a couple of crabs he began driving down and bringing back blue crab without bother the chicken neck. Zack, my lab, is the best fisherman I’ve ever known. Dogs are awesome!
