lando about the DSQ: “from what i had to do in the race, there was already some expectation that it might happen. so it wasn't a shock, it wasn't a surprise. we knew we were having a lot more issues than we ever expected during the race and that led to already the expectation that some things might not be as we expect. maybe it would have hurt more if we won the race, but we didn't so it didn't change. it doesn't change anything. there's no point being too sad about it. of course everyone in the team was a bit gutted about the result because there's a lot of effort that goes into it. so yeah it's the same for everyone but like 0.1 millimeters or whatever, it's like a piece of paper. so it was frustrating but actually i was quite okay, just excited to go again this weekend. it doesn't change anything i want to try and win in qatar and try and win in abu dhabi. so yeah it sucks, but that's life sometimes”

Putting a diesel in a two-seat roadster sounds like a decision nobody at Mercedes should have signed off on. They did it anyway. The R172 SLK250 CDI used the OM651 2.1L twin-turbo four-cylinder. 204 HP, 500 Nm of torque from just 1,600 RPM, available with a genuine six-speed manual or a seven-speed automatic. 0-100 km/h in 6.5 seconds and a top speed of 244 km/h, which is not slow for a roadster of any kind, let alone a diesel one. Fuel consumption sat around 4L/100km combined, a figure that made it more efficient than almost anything else in this class, petrol or diesel. It was the first diesel SLK Mercedes ever built, and it outperformed the contemporary diesel Audi TT it was positioned against. A genuinely fast, genuinely efficient diesel roadster that nobody asked for and nobody remembers.

Ok, I think this is officially the coolest café I've seen in my life: this place is straight out of a James Bond movie. We're deep - very deep - inside the Kizilia Grand Canyon in Xinjiang, close to Kuqa city (库车) and suddenly, after more than 1 hour driving in the canyon, we spot this place sitting on the very top of a cliff. As you can see, inside is not at all the rough and rugged vibe you'd expect in a place like this: it's super tasteful, serving flat whites and cappuccinos. It looks like a London Shoreditch coffee shop that's been dropped on top of a cliff in one of the remotest corners of Xinjiang 😅
