Malone: "So these polynucleotide vaccines are significantly different from traditional vaccines—we're aligned on that—particularly in in the pharmacokinetics. Having a product that is associated with an antigen that is present in the body for over 700 days, according to the Yale study, is unprecedented in vaccinology." They both make suggestions for expanded safety monitoring based on their observations. CDC representative: "We feel very confident in our safety systems in the US. We have one of the best safety systems in the world, but we are continuing to think through ways of how to improve them. And I think one thing you're getting at is our ability to monitor long term outcomes of vaccination, and obviously that's very difficult." Also, and critically: "But I think we would welcome input from the Committee on how to better do that." A CDC expert, Dr. Thornburg, seemed unaware of the studies showing synthetic Spike can be produced by the body for months if not years after vaccination.

South Africa’s new Health Minister, Dr. Aaron Motsoaledi, has criticised Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa and his administration and other African leaders for seeking medical treatment in other continents while failing to provide adequate healthcare at home for their citizens. Dr. Motsoaledi used an analogy of a father who tells his children to eat next door at lunchtime, highlighting the disparity between the government's actions and their responsibilities. During his tenure as Home Affairs Minister, Dr. Motsoaledi pointed out that seventy percent of women giving birth at South Africa’s Musina Hospital in Limpopo province were from Zimbabwe. This situation is exacerbated by the fact that Zimbabwe’s largest hospital has only one maternity theater, which was built in 1977 by Ian Smith. Consequently, 2,500 Zimbabwean women die each year during childbirth. Despite the billions of dollars looted by President Mnangagwa and his associates since coming into power through a military coup supported by Britain, they have failed to build a single maternity theatre at the country’s biggest hospital, which would cost only US$37,000. The one which is working was built by the colonial government and refurbished by Stanbic Bank after the bank realised that there was no single working maternity theatre at all at this hospital. Dr. Motsoaledi's remarks highlight a critical issue in Zimbabwe, the stark contrast between the government’s failure to provide basic healthcare services and the luxury of its officials seeking treatment abroad. Robert Mugabe died in Singapore, where he spent millions of taxpayer dollars on cancer treatment. Mnangagwa went to South Africa for his treatment the last time he publicly sought healthcare, and Vice President General Constantino Chiwenga receives treatment in China, traveling on private jets funded by taxpayers. The significant number of Zimbabwean women giving birth at Musina Hospital underscores the dire state of maternal healthcare in Zimbabwe. The situation is further disheartening when considering the rampant corruption and disregard for the well being of the Zimbabwean people. Dr. Motsoaledi's analogy effectively illustrates the Zimbabwean government’s failure to fulfill its duty to provide essential healthcare services for its citizens. Unlike a neighbour without money or food, Zimbabwe actually has the money, but it has a corrupt president who is indifferent to the suffering of his citizens. Dr. Motsoaledi spoke about a patient from Zimbabwe with stage 4 cancer, and yet Mnangagwa is not embarrassed and doesn’t care that all of Zimbabwe’s public hospitals have not had a single working cancer radiotherapy treatment machine for over three years. When I was invited by the United Nations and the Geneva Summit for Human Rights to speak in Geneva and mentioned this, Mnangagwa’s regime threatened to imprison me for the fourth time, having already jailed me three times for exposing how Mnangagwa and his family shamelessly looted COVID-19 funds. The million dollar question is; With all this information that Dr. Aaron Motsoaledi has on hand, why does his political party the African National Congress support and defend Mnangagwa’s irresponsible actions that have burdened South Africa’s public hospitals?

Physics-based Motion Retargeting from Sparse Inputs paper page: Avatars are important to create interactive and immersive experiences in virtual worlds. One challenge in animating these characters to mimic a user's motion is that commercial AR/VR products consist only of a headset and controllers, providing very limited sensor data of the user's pose. Another challenge is that an avatar might have a different skeleton structure than a human and the mapping between them is unclear. In this work we address both of these challenges. We introduce a method to retarget motions in real-time from sparse human sensor data to characters of various morphologies. Our method uses reinforcement learning to train a policy to control characters in a physics simulator. We only require human motion capture data for training, without relying on artist-generated animations for each avatar. This allows us to use large motion capture datasets to train general policies that can track unseen users from real and sparse data in real-time. We demonstrate the feasibility of our approach on three characters with different skeleton structure: a dinosaur, a mouse-like creature and a human. We show that the avatar poses often match the user surprisingly well, despite having no sensor information of the lower body available. We discuss and ablate the important components in our framework, specifically the kinematic retargeting step, the imitation, contact and action reward as well as our asymmetric actor-critic observations. We further explore the robustness of our method in a variety of settings including unbalancing, dancing and sports motions.

On the latest Huberman Lab episode, my guest is Robert Greene, a deep scholar and skilled writer on human psychology and behavior. I first learned about Robert from reading his book "Mastery" — which provides historical examples of the mentor — mentee relationship, and not just how to pick mentors but also how to combine and move on from mentors. From a very young age (5-6), I've been a mentor seeker and, almost always, by just observing examples and integrating different things from them… but occasionally from formal and direct relationships such as with my academic advisors over the years. I strongly feel that everyone, male or female, young or old, can greatly benefit from having mentors — regardless of whether you know them in person or have ever met them. It's also important to understand that mentors change and that evolving your mentors over time is important depending on what stage of life you are in and what brings your life the most meaning at a given stage. In this clip, I'm reflecting back to Robert my gratitude, but also sort of checking in with him that my concept of the mentor — mentee relationship is accurate. During the episode, we talk about this whole concept and process, but also power dynamics in the workplace, other types of relationships, selecting a life partner, and generally how to improve and evolve one's self-based on the billions of examples that have marked human evolution through time. In other words, the aspects of human interactions and self transcend era or technology. It's a conversation that I believe many people will benefit from thanks to Robert's incredible knowledge and generous, clear sharing of that knowledge.
