I live in a fire prone area and was evacuated the last time this happened (I’m in the LA county) because of the high wind a piece of burning ember flew in the air and landed on my patio set and it burned the side of my house. It skipped 5 houses that were closer. It can happen

fire's jumps roads all the time because of the winds we get on the big island so this can happen especially with the hurricane like winds Maui got that day

Boy, that's some wide fireline to breach! I live in a high desert with prairie grass sagebrush hills surrounding. The wind blows here near constantly, around 15 to 35 mph, routinely. We get wildfires every year. On the hills you can see where the breaks, far narrower, worked.

Hold up. Do you not know how fire works? Embers alone can travel up to 5 miles ahead of a forest/brush fire. You had very strong winds acting like a kiln. That fire doesn’t care how wide the street is or a two foot high concrete barrier.

Strange behavior for fire in blowing wind isn't it?! Try to start a fire in the wind?

Just to help you guys out, it’s not the fire that jumps the roads it’s the embers from the burning material that was blown across the road. Then those embers start new fires because no one was there to put the fires out. Not that rare.

Not that rare. This is what happened with the Marshall Fire.
