@gunga_utdr While I generally agree with Max’s sentiment here, I don’t think he’s correct to say that ethnicity/skin color has no bearing. I think it’s highly role dependent. I do think that there are va roles where you would want someone to match the ethnicity of they’re character.

@gunga_utdr Only exceptions to this I think are characters who’s identities are tied to their character. Like you probably shouldn’t get a white woman to play as Harriet Tubman in an animated film or whatever

@gunga_utdr Unrelated, but I just find it funny that when casting a VA for Lincoln, the director would probably opt for a deep powerful voice, when Lincoln is believed to have had a higher almost falsetto voice. So in the end the VA might have NOTHING in common with Lincoln but still fit.

@gunga_utdr i do feel authentic casting has its place as well some projects where a person of a certain culture is needed to represent it like anyone being able to be cast anyone authentic casting are not mutually exclusive

@gunga_utdr I do voice acting sometimes and one of my first roles was an animation my friend did where I played a Japanese guy and I'm a white guy from England. Race doesn't mean anything when you're just voice acting because you only hear the voice. You don't need to see their faces
