I can tell you that marriage based on the fallacious idea that the partners stay the same, in other words the thing you liked or loved about them does not change, is a marriage doomed to failure. You can’t prepare for the changes you will both go through over the decades. Your reason for being together cannot be for anything that will change. Now, what doesn’t change? Nothing. So what should a marriage be based on? The adventure of witnessing and supporting each other through the dynamics of life and to see what the other becomes at the end. Marriage is unnatural, so your approach to it also has to be abnormal for it to remain joyous and inviting. Our tendency to make everything academic and scientific is very flawed and naive.
