The vending machine is the detail that makes it work. Nobody's actually afraid of being uploaded and tortured. They're afraid of being uploaded and then becoming somebody's appliance. Whoever holds the hardware holds you. That's the real problem with digital immortality and nobody selling it wants to talk about it.
