If @PoliceUg confirm that tracking is done through a separate device installed inside the vehicle, then the “digital number plate” explanation deserves serious scrutiny. Installing a tracking device in someone’s private car without lawful authority or informed consent is a serious privacy violation. Misrepresenting that surveillance as something embedded in the number plate only makes the matter more disturbing. Who authorised the devices, under what law, and why was the public misled?

So why the hell are we having them? @Natif Otafire's resistance to this was not political, but visioned.

Anything Jim Muhwezi is involved in has always led to robbing of citizens. We must stop this project and go back to the old plates.

So all they had to do was to tell car/motobike owners to take their cars to particular locations selected by the police & have a tracker fixed but they decided to even change the number plates.

The moment I saw that minister sweet talking the number plate project...I knew it was scam. Every major scam, he is in.

Very sad that we took aware business from Wava to incompetent company and still manufacture fake number plates that are not digital. I knew it. Basajja mwe you will never see heaven

Finally this is out more. The number plate is just that. Vehicles are fitted with tracking devices in which some cases they mess with the car's electrical system and people just take them out when they visit their mechanic. This is another corruption scandal.

The most annoying part is someone claiming they invested $250m that they have to recover by over charging Ugandans for a tracker that only government has access to

This country can never and will never be better as long as people are still getting away with things like these.

Let's buy the tracking device and stay with our old plates then. How much is a tracking device?

Can the road cameras identify the number plates at a very high rate connect to the data base system for easy identification of cameras, because if you say so then it means we were hoodwinked by the state with the amount of money tabled plus what we injected into procession

I knew from the beginning that it was not gonna work, because would have been the first country in the world 2 have such.
