My third visit to Mexico City and a lot has changed for the good. The time is now to take the fight to the cartels. What has changed? President Trump has made this a priority just like he said he would. President Sheinbaum and her head of security Omar Harfuch are breaking records in drug busts and arrests, targeting Sinaloa’s fentanyl production mostly. They are also open to American help for the first time in…maybe ever. This is a terrorist-insurgency problem that is destroying Mexico and killing Americans. Defeating the cartels will require a Counter-Insurgency strategy that involves every agency in both the U.S. and Mexico. Our biggest problem? Congress still isn’t focused. I’ve worked for over a year as head of our Cartel Task Force (with no additional staff and no funding) to develop a whole-of-government strategy to defeat the cartels and produce the legislation that President Trump will need. But there is more work to do. It’s why I asked Speaker Mike Johnson to create a Select Committee on Cartels so we could hire proper staff and get the legislation right. He told me that he agreed. So do all the Chairmen that co-sponsored the select committee idea, like Rep. Jim Jordan, James Comer, Rep. Brian Mast, Mike Rogers, Rep. Mark Green, French Hill, Rep. Brett Guthrie, Brian Babin, Bryan Steil, and Congressman Michael Guest. It’s a no brainer. We should vote on it next week and get to work.

Tom Homan just took CBS’ Ed O’Keefe to the woodshed over ICE agents wearing masks. O’Keefe tried to spin it, claiming ICE was getting preferential treatment by covering their faces, while other agencies supposedly aren’t allowed. As we remember Bucha, we ask: what will war and threats look like tomorrow – for Europe, for all of us? We must not let Europe’s enemies answer this question for us, or before us. This is very serious. If we have programs like SAFE, we must make them truly modern and effective. Europe should produce not just what it knows, but what really works in today’s war and what is proven by today’s war. And countries already working with us on joint production understand this. Ukraine has this experience. Now, as our expert teams work in the Middle East and the Gulf, we see that our experience in protecting lives and critical infrastructure is, in many ways, unique. I say this not just out of pride. This is about security. Ukraine’s experience in defense is a real security guarantee for Europe. So I propose that we work together to modernize our defense. That category is then used to group different people under one umbrella. This case doesn’t only involve alleged conduct. It also involves people who observe, document, organize, and speak out about immigration enforcement in their communities. The indictment also references online chats, and communications, as part of the alleged conspiracy. And this is where things get more complicated… Talking, organizing, and discussing protests, or government activity, is not the same as committing a crime. But, in conspiracy cases, those same communications can be used to argue intent and coordination. That is where First Amendment concerns come in. For almost a year, I’ve shared hundreds of videos documenting ICE/Border Patrol agents violating people’s rights, in real time. When people can actually see what is happening… it creates transparency, and accountability.
