Dirk Nowitzki – 2011 Finals midrange work Middy was forever on lock, shot 104/107 from free throws in the finals/wcf, was hitting rainbow 3s, clutch shots and had high-scoring games As a Bron fan, I ain’t even mad one of the losses came to Dirk🫡

Dwyane Wade admits it was ‘childish’ of him and LeBron to mock Dirk for being sick in the 2011 finals 😬 “That moment with Dirk was childish. It was a childish moment that was caught on tape. It was a moment of us saying to the cameras ‘stop giving them excuses.’ It was like oh it’s another excuse, he’s now sick? Everyone is dealing with something but it because some bulletin board info for the team and for Dirk. You don’t want to give a team nothing extra. You’re already in the finals and already a very good team, and we did. Just added a little more juice to the series” (Via Zach Lowe / DWade)

Ray Allen says his most clutch Finals shot had nothing to do with being clutch “Not just that [Game 6 Finals] shot, but all the preparation that went into it. To be so good at one shot in one moment, it’s like a thousand shots” “Not in one sitting, anybody who shoots a thousand shots in one sitting is lying to themselves, because you ain’t shooting a game shot” “It’s over time, the collection of shots I’ve taken, the work I put in. Knowing where you are on the floor, understanding the lines, where you feel around the basket, your footwork” “Over time it becomes innate every time you step on the court. That was one shot. But look at all the shots I took in practice, warming up” “I used to do drills where I’d lay on my back, jump up, have the coach throw me the ball and I’ve got to shoot. Get on my stomach, do the same thing.

Dwyane Wade on why they lost to the Mavs in the 2011 NBA Finals👀 “This is a very good Dallas Mavericks team…Jason Terry probably could’ve been Finals MVP outside of Dirk…Bron had to guard JT — Bron can guard almost anybody but it’s hard to guard the dude moving all-around…we had a team that was still trying to find our identity…you talking about a young Miami Heat team trying to figure it all out with Spo being 3 years on the sideline. Let’s not act like we were supposed to win that finals. Yes — we thought we were going to win it because that’s how cocky people say we were…we did crumble in game 2 because we wasn’t battle tested yet…Mavs had one of the greatest players of all time — like Dirk is one of the greatest to ever touch a basketball so he wasn’t go nowhere…” (via Wy Network by Dwyane Wade)

Mario Chalmers and UD discuss on what they could’ve done better in the 2011 NBA Finals: Mario: “I feel like I should’ve been in there starting…they put JJ Barea in there and Bibby was struggling in that finals too so I feel like we could’ve made that adjustment…for that game 2…we should’ve had you (UD) on Dirk for the last possession…” UD: “you touched a nerve on that one…I love Spo but I was highly upset because that’s what I’m here for. Mark Cuban says he passed on Giannis Antetokounmpo in the 2013 NBA Draft out of respect for Dirk Nowitzki “When Giannis was getting drafted, we passed because we had Dirk. And this was 2013, we had just won the championship two years ago” “Some of our people wanted to go for Giannis. I wanted to trade down, and we ended up getting Shane Larkin, not so much because of Shane as a player, but we needed that cap room to go out and try to sign somebody to propel Dirk” “Remember, Giannis was coming out. I vividly remember there were two VHS tapes of him playing in the Greek league. That was all they had to show me... and it wasn't like every other team knew about him either” “But you have to respect Dirk. You have to respect what he's done for us. So, out of respect to Dirk, it was my final decision. We went for it, and we didn't get the free agents we wanted, but that was the plan”

Dwyane Wade SHUTS DOWN the 2006 Finals rigged claims from Mark Cuban and the Mavs fans: “Mark stop saying that — we beat yall. Did we get some foul calls? Everybody gets foul calls — I can go back and point to 2011 when one of them series Dirk had 48 — he had 24 free throws…it wasn’t rigged we still had to play the game…did I get a few whistles? Yes but was I the only one attacking the basket every play? Probably so I’m going to get some whistles too, I’m going to get some calls — they were fouling let’s not act like this. You’re not about to tarnish the work I put in as a young guy…” (via Wy Network by Dwyane Wade)

Kobe didn't want the last shot, he needed it. Brunson's built the same way. He just led the Finals with 22 clutch points, the most in a Finals in 15 years, since Dirk in 2011. He's led the playoffs in clutch usage three straight postseasons. 45 in a closeout game. 13 straight in the fourth. Attacking Wembanyama on switches with a title on the line. The Knicks trailed by double digits in all four of their Finals wins. Brunson hit a dagger in every single one. Some guys survive the pressure. He hunts it. The moment doesn't find him. He finds it. Best closer of this era isn't a debate anymore.

Dennis Smith Jr. says Dirk Nowitzki still owes him $10,000 after losing a footrace despite getting a half court head start “Dirk still owes me some bread. Let me put that out there. Dirk, you owe me 10 bands, bro” “We was on his ass one day talking about, ‘Oh man, ain’t no way you moving this slow.’ He was like, ‘Who wants to race me?’ “I don’t know who set it up. It might have been Wes Matthews, but the race was he start at half court and I start at full court, and we raced to the end” “I won, and he still ain’t paid me. Don’t make me come down to Nowitzki Lane, bro. I need my paper. I need mine for real”

Gary Payton says Udonis Haslem was the reason they won in the 2006 NBA finals: “He’s the reason we won the championship. Basically. He got in Dirk. When we contained their superstar, and made other players get in position they weren’t used to being in, we took off. We won 4 in a row. Dirk was killing us in the first two games. He gets back in MIA and we eliminated him… We were basically a Udonis Haslem fan. I was. When I told him ‘UD stick in him, stay in him because he wants to go off one leg, make him uncomfortable.’ Udonis made him uncomfortable for 4 straight games. Very uncomfortable.” (Via Miami HEAT YT)

Iman Shumpert says 2012 LeBron James was the best version in his entire career👀 “I think the best version I saw Bron was — you remember the year Dirk won? That next year they (Bron) came back — when him and D-Wade vowed to not settle for 3s…they were just attacking — it was vicious. I was like ‘bro wtf are we supposed to with that? Here's Ayo Dosunmu talking about what he's reading in pick and roll coverage and why he's taking more midrange shots in Minnesota after those were prohibited in Chicago. "In Chicago, midrange shots was really prohibited. It was 3s and layups, no midrange shots unless it's the end of the shot clock. Here, we got Rudy, he's setting big screens. So if you can set up pick and roll, you come off Rudy, you open." Dosunmu took 4 "long" midrange shots in 45 games in Chicago this season before being traded to Minnesota. And he's taken 12 in 15 games for the Wolves. Dosunmu has also nearly doubled the frequency in which he's taking shots from floater range. Dosunmu took 86% of his shots in Chicago at the rim or from 3. In Minnesota, he's becoming a three-level scorer. And his eFG% has stayed almost exactly the same.
