Right as I stepped out…BOOM 💥 the Lower Manhattan skyline was right there, glowing in golden hour light 🌇 as the sunset bounced off the buildings. Absolutely magical. 3 SEPTEMBER 2025 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE PRESS STATEMENT ADC to First Lady: National Library is Not a Gift – Says Nigeria’s Intellectual Heritage Must Not Depend on Charity The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has called on the Federal Government to immediately take responsibility for completing the long-abandoned National Library of Nigeria project in Abuja, warning that a national monument of such importance should not be left to private charity. Reacting to recent comments by First Lady, Mrs. Oluremi Tinubu, who announced her intention to support the library’s completion as part of her birthday celebrations, the ADC expressed appreciation for her gesture, but stressed that the National Library cannot be reduced to a personal pet project. According to the party, the National Library, established by an Act of Parliament in 1964, is the custodian of Nigeria’s collective memory and intellectual heritage. In this regard, its completion and long-term maintenance, the ADC argued, must be prioritized through transparent, sustainable and predictable national funding, not through goodwill donations. The full statement read: The African Democratic Congress (ADC) acknowledges and appreciates the thoughtful gesture of The First Lady, Mrs. Oluremi Tinubu, in drawing attention to the abandoned National Library of Nigeria project in Abuja as part of her birthday celebrations. However, as a responsible party, we must firmly state that the National Library of Nigeria cannot, and must not, be reduced to the status of a personal pet project of any individual, no matter how well-intentioned. The National Library is a living repository of our collective memory and intellectual heritage. It is the custodian of Nigeria’s story, culture, research, and knowledge production. It is not just another building. It was established by an Act of Parliament in 1964, as a parastatal of the Federal Ministry of Education to ensure that future generations have access to the wealth of knowledge needed to build a progressive and enlightened society. Therefore, for sustainability purposes, the library and its projects must be funded through national budgetary provisions. Now that Mrs. Tinubu has shown interest in the National Library, what is required is not personal charity, but presidential attention. The First Lady should use her influence to impress upon President Tinubu the urgency of completing this project through budgetary allocations. Opens at 4pm. ✨ “Overstory”, Lower Manhattan’s Sky High Cocktail Bar ✨ Perched on the 64th floor of 70 Pine Street, Overstory opened in 2021 as the sister bar to Crown Shy and Saga. Housed in a landmarked Art Deco skyscraper (built in 1932 as the Cities Service Building), the space combines historic charm with modern edge. 🍸 Known for its sleek wraparound terrace and jaw dropping 360° views of NYC, Overstory has quickly become one of the city’s most iconic cocktail destinations. ➡️ Entrance tip: Don’t look for a flashy sign, head to 70 Pine Street, enter through the lobby, and take a series of elevators (yes, it’s a bit of a treasure hunt) before arriving in the clouds. Yesterday marked the first 80 degree day of the year in New York City, and I’ve never seen the lines for the NYC Ferry so long. The demand was so high that they had to bring in an extra ferry just to accommodate the crowds. There’s something special about cruising along the city’s waterways on a warm, sunny day, taking in the skyline from a whole new perspective. For just $4.50, it’s easily one of the best, and most scenic, ways to get around the city when the weather is this perfect.

Right here in Texas, over 5,000 books have been banned or pulled from libraries and classrooms. Not challenged. Not debated. Just... removed. So we made the Banned Books Lending Library — a space where those books are still accessible to anyone who wants to read them, no permission slip required. After 6 months of work, we’re proud to finally open our doors to the public. Come check it out. Take a book, leave a book. Read what they’d rather you not see, not know, not think. Wrestle with it. Abbey Library of Saint Gall, Switzerland 🇨🇭 - one of the oldest collections in Europe, but also possibly the most beautiful..... According to the Abbey of Saint Gall’s website (Abtei St. Gallen in German), the earliest evidence of a library collection on the site dates back to around 820 AD (many of its 160,000 priceless texts are nearly that old), in plans that show a library attached to the main church. On display are 8th Century AD, bill of sale for the abbey property; a Gospel of John 800 AD; Changing exhibitions show handwritten and illuminated texts, including Bibles, liturgical works, prayer books and biographies of saints from as early as 8th-9th Century AD; and works depicting the daily lives of resident monks, which provide insight into abbey life from 9th Century AD, through the Middle Ages. Some early works are written in Irish, evidence of the monastery's Irish roots (hence the name, "St. Gall"). The elaborate, rococo library was constructed between 1758-1767 AD, and is worth admiration in its own right, with its magnificent burnished woodwork, undulating balconies and ceiling frescoes. The Abbey is said to have followed the Rule of St. Benedict, a portion of which prescribes the study of literature, should a library be available, so it is no wonder that the abbey itself would have been built with one. As the abbey grew over the years, so did its library, and soon the site became known for its collection of illuminated manuscripts and writings, as well as a leading center for science and Western culture around 10th Century AD. In mid-18th Century AD, the world-renowned collection was moved to a new library space which was lavishly decorated in a Baroque rococo style. Elaborate artworks were installed in the ceiling which was framed by flowing, curved moldings, giving the space a timeless and fantastical aspect. The wooden balconies are shaped into flowering shapes and designs. Oh, and the books from the historic collection are also on display if you can look past their surroundings to pay attention to them. Today the library at St. Gall is still considered nearly unrivaled in its beauty. It also now holds one of the more important collections in the world, covering 12 centuries of non-stop collecting. The collection even includes the first example of an architectural plan on parchment. As the abbey grew over the years, so did its library, and soon the site became known for its collection of illuminated manuscripts and writings, as well as a leading center for science and Western culture around 10th Century AD. In mid-18th Century AD, the world-renowned collection was moved to a new library space which was lavishly decorated in a Baroque rococo style. Elaborate artworks were installed in the ceiling which was framed by flowing, curved moldings, giving the space a timeless and fantastical aspect. The wooden balconies are shaped into flowering shapes and designs. Oh, and the books from the historic collection are also on display if you can look past their surroundings to pay attention to them. Today the library at St. Gall is still considered nearly unrivaled in its beauty. It also now holds one of the more important collections in the world, covering 12 centuries of non-stop collecting. The collection even includes the first example of an architectural plan on parchment. From up here, you get cinematic views in every direction, the Midtown towers glowing gold, the Queensboro Bridge stretching across the water. You can take the F train straight to Roosevelt Island, or float above the East River on the iconic Roosevelt Island Tram, a 4 minute aerial glide with jaw-dropping city views.

Today, we give robots a /skills library that self-evolves and compounds indefinitely! Introducing ASPIRE: a robot solving its 100th task is no longer as clueless as solving its first. Coding agents observe multimodal sensory traces from simulation and real robots, launch an evolutionary search over control programs, and distill the best know-how into an ever-expanding library. ASPIRE is a new type of continual learning: "training" is skill refinement instead of gradient descent. "Trained model" is a repo of sensorimotor skills instead of floating weights. “Distributed training” is a panel of agents each practicing a different skill instead of sharded minibatches. Here's the beauty: ASPIRE gives the tired terms "sim2real transfer" and "cross-embodiment transfer" a whole new meaning. Bridging the sim-to-real gap is notoriously brutal. An end-to-end policy has to swallow both the visual shift (sim looks toyish next to a real camera) and the subtle contact physics it never quite gets right. ASPIRE sidesteps the mess, because it doesn't ship pixels or weights across the gap, but ships the know-how. The robot still has to practice in the real world, not zero-shot, but it gets there way faster because it isn't rediscovering the strategy from scratch. Same for going single-arm to bimanual hardware, which usually requires new data and retraining from zero. You cannot staff two hundred new mental health centres with magic dust and managerial jargon. Pressed on BBC Breakfast about launching scores of walk-in hubs in banks, libraries, and hospitals without hiring extra staff, Yvette Cooper offered a familiar excuse: workers must simply "work differently". This is not a strategy for public health. It is a masterclass in public relations. It is a government desperate to be seen doing something, precisely so it can avoid the hard work of actually doing something. Ministers love photo opportunities. Cutting a ribbon outside a bank branch or a town library costs next to nothing. Training, recruiting, and paying the actual human beings required to care for vulnerable people requires real commitment. Cooper boasts of a £16 billion mental health budget. But shuffling an exhausted NHS worker from a clinic to a desk in a municipal library does not create one extra minute of care. It merely stretches a burnt-out workforce across a larger map. Rebranding overworked staff is cheap; providing genuine care is not.
