Bessent refuses to acknowledge that we paid huge amounts of money into Social Security - and we probably could have made more investing in stocks - but that was not a legal option - he cannot steal our investment in our retirement - SS is not an entitlement, we worked hard - some of us started paying in at age 18 and retired at age 70 - that's 50+ years of investing and saving for retirement - and he is treating us like we are begging to be taken care of?

I call it welfare because from where I’m sitting it is. Boomers/(older people) do not support welfare (which benefits them and young alike). What I pay in social security/medicare/fed taxes goes to paying that for people who use it right now. That’s how it’s still supported. I (my generation) blames boomers because we are genuinely suffering and data points to how boomers did not set up future generations fr success. Infrastructure/jobs/affordability/wages all have not kept up. The people in power are mostly boomers and just won’t die basically. Majority of boomers are severely out of touch with reality for younger people trying to claw their way to success. I have a bachelors in IT, my wife in finance and she’s going back to get a degree in nursing and I’m pursuing my masters. We cannot find jobs. We are doing absolutely everything to set ourselves up for success. We’ve spend our entire 20s struggling and scraping by and got our degrees and cannot get jobs. Our jobs are either outsourced to other counrturws because it’s cheaper or older people refuse to retire either because they can’t or they won’t. Your and my struggle are part of the same equation. The fed/state level government are not working to help Americans of all ages and financial situations, they’re only helping the top. It’s on both republicans and democrats. Republicans are causing way way more division and strife where they’re not even making solutions they’re just trying to beat down the democrats.
