It’s amazing to me that people running these companies with the power to green light a new animated film like this don’t do so. Monday morning I’d be like “We’re taking a break from CGI animation and we’re going old school for the foreseeable future. Make it so!”

interestingly my three year old twin grandbabies prefer old school Disney movies over the new ones.. right now my grand daughter is stuck on sleeping beauty..my grand son is stuck on the sword in the stone..

look at the details in the bricks behind them and how effortlessly they are moving seemlessly into each frame . hand drawn was so good

I'm not kidding, @Disney... You make a movie with hand-drawn animation and an original (O-R-I-G-I-N-A-L!!), unique, and interesting story again with a soundtrack on the level of those movies and I'm at the theater on opening night. I'm buying the BluRay. I'm streaming the music. I'm buying the CD. I'm streaming the movie. I'm buying the merch. I'm visiting the parks. I can't begin to describe how badly we all want that again.

These backgrounds alone have more life than most modern films. Please Disney, go back.

On that note, here's how Disney's very first character actually happened, and it's not the one you'd guess. Before Mickey Mouse, Walt Disney and animator Ub Iwerks created Oswald the Lucky Rabbit in 1927 for Universal Pictures, and he was genuinely popular, 26 shorts and real box office success. But Walt didn't own him, Universal did. In 1928, when Walt asked for better pay, the distributor Charles Mintz revealed he controlled the character outright and had already poached most of Disney's own animators behind his back. Walt lost Oswald completely, on the spot. On the train ride home, devastated, he started sketching a new character with Iwerks that nobody else could take from him, a mouse first called Mortimer, renamed Mickey at his wife's suggestion. Without losing Oswald, there's a real chance Mickey Mouse never gets made at all. Disney finally got Oswald back in 2006, 78 years later, in an unrelated trade with NBC Universal for sportscaster Al Michaels.

This is impossible now because such cartoons are drawn by MANY very talented people who have been polishing the style for decades. They should be working at the studio constantly, but people voted with their wallets that this is unnecessary, and these people are no longer there. The great artists of the 20th century were not Warhol, Pollock or the 'modern' artists. It was the largely unknown geniuses who worked in animation, and also what was disparagingly called 'commercial' art. People like Rockwell. These old animations are rightly loved by millions

Absolutely....There was a certain magic in those old Disney animations....hand drawn warmth, beautiful storytelling, and characters that stayed with you long after the credits. Pure nostalgia.
