Disney's THE BLACK CAULDRON was pretty much Dead on arrival after Eisner cut out nearly 20 minutes from the film. In 1986 Tokyo Disneyland created an animatronic who tried to turn the audience into demons, which US Disney never would have done. Sadly it closed in 2006

Peter Watkins's "Punishment Park" (1971) was released in the Murray Hill Cinema in an out-of-the-way part of Manhattan, New York City, and already it was clear that the US distributor was not going to properly handle the film. It remains unclear whether the cinema owner (or the distributor) was affected by the hostile critics, or whether the Federal authorities issued threats. "Punishment Park" was withdrawn from the cinema after only four days. Since then, ‘Punishment Park’ has rarely been shown in the US, and never on TV. A representative of a main Hollywood studio which could have released ‘Punishment Park’ was quoted as saying something to the effect that, “We could never show this film, we would have the Sheriff’s office [or perhaps ‘the Federal authorities’ - PW] on our necks in five minutes.” Participants at a seminar for TV producers from 24 Public Broadcasting System (PBS) stations across the US all swore that they could never, and would never show a film like this on American TV. A fantastic compilation of goals from the 1978 World Cup from the BBC and a great soundtrack. This compilation was aired on Grandstand in 1986 as a preview for the 1986 World Cup Finals and was dubbed 86 goals for 86, which was part of a longer compilation which included 86 World Cup goals from the 1950s to 1982 which unfortunately I don’t have. Would love to see the full compilation again, someone out there must surely still have it! #WorldCup

A test audience, who saw "Top Gun" (1986) before it was released were annoyed that there was no love scene in the movie. Five months after the production had wrapped, the producers summoned Tom Cruise and Kelly McGillis to Chicago to film the infamous elevator scene and the s€x scene. During their time away from the set, McGillis had lost approximately sixteen pounds, and Cruise was filming "The Color of Money" (1986), so his hair was much longer in those two scenes. McGillis' hair was also much darker. That's why she hid it underneath a cap in the elevator scene & in the lovemaking scene, it was all silhouette because of the colour of her hair.

After the Berlin Wall fell we got very overconfident. We thought Russia would democratize. We thought China would move toward democratic capitalism. The Communist Party had other plans. Three catastrophic decisions followed. 1. We let China into the WTO unchecked, which hollowed out our manufacturing centers. 2. We went to war in Iraq and Afghanistan with a tax cut, which was the first time in history we started a major war and cut taxes instead of raising them, which put us on a deficit trajectory we’ve never recovered from. 3. When the global financial crisis hit, we bailed out the banks and gave nothing to working and middle class people. These decisions created the Tea Party, then Occupy Wall Street, and then those two got together, had a baby, and created MAGA. Now we have anger-based populism from both directions, sharing the same economic desperation underneath very different costumes. The current political leadership is not going to be the one that pulls us out of this. They just don’t have the will for it.

Tesla FSD 14.3.2 Actual Smart Summon (A.S.S.) came in handy tonight in the pouring rain! I took an Uber break at Walgreens, and the sky opened up as I was leaving. I haven't used A.S.S. in several months, since back in the v13 days, so pretty cool that the first time I tried it out with v14.3, I actually needed it! BTW, the GoPro iPhone app is phenomenal! I was able to turn my cameras back on from inside Walgreens. GoPro nearly has as much range as Tesla Summon!

Looks like Rodgers had Thielen dialed up for a big seam chunk over the middle on the throw that got tipped up into the year & was nearly picked. People would probably view Thielen’s performance a lot differently if this didn’t get tipped. This would have been huge up 5 with 7 minutes left to go in the game. Thought Thielen looked pretty good on the film from yesterday; ball just ended up going to the primary (DK Metcalf) a lot in this game. I expect Thielen to have more production in the weeks to come.

Thought this was an apropos way to close out the year. I would have never imagined almost 20 years AFTER closing out a fulfilling career I would have stepped back into the ring and dare I say, do it better. More than half of 2023 was dedicated to entertaining you, performing for the WWE Universe - you all welcomed me so warmly and allowed me to dip my toes into the water again. Thank you to all of you who supported me in and out of the ring, in particular I must shout out The Man who took this ride with me, who gave me an actual second run, who was with me week in and week out for … The Encore. Let’s go 2024! Here’s to more firsts, more age defying feats and mone fun! Video by Chris Riddle

Disturbing video shows a 58-year-old veteran, Leticia Gonzales Triplett, slowly drowning in a pool while multiple staff and onlookers walk by, ignoring her struggle. Triplett struggled to stay afloat for about 25 minutes, at times gripping the pool's edge for support. For nearly 10 minutes, she was seen motionless, face down in the water, while several individuals looked at her but did not intervene. She was finally pulled from the water more than 20 minutes after entering, only after a swimmer in an adjacent pool noticed her. Sadly, it was too late.
