Dispelling some false Brock Purdy narratives I've heard from casual talking heads this week in the national media. #1: "Brock Purdy doesn't elevate his teammates!" The 49ers are the first team in NFL history have a RB, two WR and a TE each have 1,000+ all purpose yards. Career...

Imagine what Purdy would do if they had an elite offensive line. The line still does pretty good though considering McCaffrey won the rushing title.

Well I mean I think Jauan Jennings, Chris Conley, and McCloud were all drafted. I guess people think if you can’t do it with tax accountants and Walmart Greeters it isn’t impressive.

I feel like people are arguing past each other. He’s obviously very good but he’s just not in that top tier of 4-5 QBs yet. Doesn’t mean he won’t be but let’s pump the brakes a little.

Cmac is the one that elevated the 49ers off. He faces eight man in the box at a 40% rate, which is highest in the league. This forces defenses to play Man, which makes it easier for the receivers and Purdy. The same way Jimmy G’s numbers jumped up when 49ers got Cmac

It's just his second season from being the 262nd and last pick of '22 draft. He's young, he's awesome this year too, still a lot of potential. Maybe that's why they hate him, idk. Not your typical famous overpriced qb.

Air yards per attempt would be the stat you pull up to argue a “check down” merchant. Not YPA or catchable ball rates, although both worthy of mention. Just doesn’t defeat the accusations

This Brock Purdy story is WILD. One of the GOAT NFL YouTubers Brett Kollman revealed on his show that Purdy was rehabbing his surgically repaired elbow late into November of last year. Going into December, the 49ers were 8-3 and Purdy was balling out, in the thick of the MVP race. Despite this and Purdy’s arm not being 100 percent, he still... 🏈 Had the highest completion percentage on passes of 20+ yards last year at 55 percent. 🏈 Was number one in deep ball catchable rate percentage 🏈 Led all QB’s in YPA at 9.6 This is why I’ve said I think Purdy can be BETTER in 2024 than he was last season. He’s actually healthy, with a full offseason for the first time in his NFL career. #49ers

PUT SOME RESPECT ON BROCK PURDY’s NAME. Purdy shut all the dumb QB controversy talk up in 1 week after throwing for 3 TDs and 200 yards with a 133.5 passer rating. The 49ers are his team and Mac Jones did a hell of a job in his absence. No controversy. Stop playing with him.

LeSean McCoy on Brock Purdy and Mac Jones: “I think they feel more comfortable with Mac Jones at quarterback than Brock Purdy… What I’m saying is, when you watch the offense they work better with Mac Jones. I’m not talking about when they had all them superstars 2-3 years ago. I’m talking about right now when you watch Brock Purdy play this year and you watch Mac Jones, who’s playing better so far? Mac’s going to ball against the Falcons. George Kittle is coming back. I’m telling you right now, and I don’t think Mac Jones is no world beater, but I will say this, a first round talent compared to a seventh round last pick in the draft, they run the offense differently… When Brock Purdy comes back, and he doesn’t look as good as Mac Jones, it’s gonna get chaotic and everyone is gonna talk about it.” 🤨 🎥: Speakeasy

My advice to Brandon Aiyuk during his contract negotiations: Quality of life is important. If you watch RECEIVER, Davante Adams looks miserable with the Raiders. He may have gotten a fat new contract, but the football situation is nothing close to what it was in Green Bay. With the 49ers, Aiyuk has an opportunity to compete for Super Bowls, continue his rapport with Brock Purdy, which has yielded elite production the last year and a half and led to Aiyuk being an All-Pro, Kyle Shanahan is going to be able to scheme you open, you can still make great money, while being HAPPY and being San Francisco's no. 1 WR. #49ers

Richard Sherman on the 49ers miserable performance yesterday: “That was awful. Brock Purdy is back. I think if Mac Jones wasn’t hurt as badly as he was I think he starts this game. You could see the rust. Obviously Brock completed some really good passes, but you could see the rust. The offensive line again, he was under duress, the pockets were collapsing, but he had adequate time. There weren’t many holes for Christian McCaffrey to work his way through. Way, way, way, too many drops. And still they had a chance to win because they’re a really good team and Jacksonville isn’t a great team. To turn the ball over 4 times in any game is unacceptable. I’m sure Kyle Shanahan is gonna have his foot deep in a lot of people’s rear ends.” 🎥: Richard Sherman

ESPN’s Michelle Smallmon has the 49ers finishing last in the NFC West: “They’re going to be in the basement of that division despite having the easiest schedule in the NFL. They are banged up. I know they had five players return to practice but they are banged up. Heading into this season what were they relying on? A youth movement, health, and Brock Purdy to elevate those around him. The health hasn’t been great so far. They’re thin at a lot of positions. I don’t know about the lack of experience a lot of these young guys are gonna be able to get up to speed quickly and last year we saw when Brock Purdy doesn’t have the full complement around him, what happened? A 6-11 season.” 🎥: UNSPORTSMANLIKE

Fred Warner believes Brock Purdy will bring the 49ers a Super Bowl: “He does everything elite in my opinion. Especially when he came back from his injury this year and he started to come into his own and kinda get over that foot and get his mobility back. You really saw him come to life. I think he played the best ball out of any team quarterback in the league down the stretch. His ability to process (pre-snap and post-snap), I think that’s what separates the good from the greats… Purdy does it with the best of them. I’m happy he’s on my team. He definitely is gonna get us a Bowl.” via: St. Brown Podcast

Warren Sharp on John Lynch’s drafting over the years: “I know some 49ers fans are going to say they win a lot of games, so he must be drafting well. No. They win in spite of Lynch. Their 3 biggest on field contributors to wins the last several years have been Trent Williams, Christian McCaffrey and Brock Purdy. He got Trent because Dan Snyder pissed him off. CMC was a trade and Purdy was Mr Irrelevant, but after the draft, Lynch gave the credit to the Purdy pick to Brian Griese and scout Steve Slowik. Those 3 players combined with the coaching of Kyle Shanahan are leading the 49ers to wins. In fact, I would turn this argument on its head and say the 49ers have been close to winning, but still haven’t won a Super Bowl because they have drafted so poorly.” My biggest takeaway from the video other than Sharp destroying Lynch is that Kyle Shanahan doesn’t get any of the blame for several poor drafts and decisions — the trade up to get Lance — since 2021 🎥: Warren Sharp

Richard Sherman on Brock Purdy’s play against the Rams: “I thought this was a statement game for Brock Purdy because they say he can’t do it without his weapons… He threw for almost 300 yards, 3 touchdowns, no interceptions and ran the ball for 41 yards. He’s a good quarterback, he’s an elite quarterback. I would say he’s one of the top five quarterbacks in the NFL. If you give him the same criticism [as elite QBs] then please give it to Joe Burrow. Please give it to every quarterback that you think is elite and that has not played that way, because Brock’s playing that way and you don’t want to give him credit.” 🎥: Richard Sherman

“Brock Purdy all of the sudden has turned into the best quarterback who’s ever played football” -PFT Commenter “He was phenomenal. He was toying with the Bears” -Big Cat “Brock Purdy’s feeling himself so much that he’s designing multiple touchdown dances. So that when he gets his second one, he’s got a different variation of ‘The Dougie’ that he can pull out on you. That’s dangerous levels of swag for Brock Purdy” -PFT Commenter “He was Neo in the Matrix. It was insane to watch… I don’t know how you get consistent stops against this offense” -Big Cat “I still think that Kyle Shanahan should be coach of the year.. Given all that they’ve gone through and all the people that they’re missing and how they might get the one seed, this is the best job that he’s ever done coaching” -PFT Commenter Pardon My Take #FTTB

Brock Purdy on George Kittle returning from his Achilles injury so quickly: “All I know is that he went hard. He did everything he could to get back for Week 1. That’s a credit to him. That’s actually remarkable to be able to have that kind of injury and do what he did to get back. He flew places. He did everything the right way. He just worked his tail off every day in the weight room from when we were back in California at OTAs, the summer in Tennessee and then back during camp. Big credit to him for doing that and doing it for the team. He wanted to get back to play with the boys and to give this organization everything he’s got.”

Brock Purdy on what Kyle Shanahan says to him at times on the headset during games: “You had the look, Brock! What are you doing?!?!” Brock on Kyle calling in plays to him: “He tells me the plays and then lets me go. There’s some things he’ll tell me beforehand like 'Remind JJ on this to cut down his split and to look hot'. He’s done a good job with when I walk up to the line of not being in my ear and letting me play clear. He’s done a really good job of that and then obviously at 15 seconds the headset cuts out.” Brock on Kyle’s thoughts of him doing the Dougie: “Reminds me how bad of a dancer I am… Kyle will say in team meetings 'Yeah, Brock’s doing whatever that cringe things is'. I’m like what are you talking about, Bro? I hit it pretty good.” via: Pat McAfee

Colin Cowherd says Kyle Shanahan’s draft approach isn’t working for the 49ers: “Kyle Shanahan has got so much aptitude as a coach. He is so respected that half the league is using his schemes, but I think he has way too much power in the building with personnel. I’m not denying that the Niners have done well with some late round draft picks. Brock Purdy, Jauan Jennings, George Kittle, Talanoa Hufanga. I’m not denying that. But they have missed and reached on a lot on first, second, and third-round picks. I listened to Kyle Shanahan on the Rich Eisen Show and he was talking about their theory on how they draft and I’m like 'I don’t know. This doesn’t sound the way I would do it'.” 🎥: Herd w/Colin Cowherd

The 49ers need Ricky Pearsall to become a 1b WR. That’s what they drafted him in the 1st round to be. They let go Deebo Samuel, Juan Jennings and in a way Brandon Aiyuk because they believe in Ricky Pearsal. RICKYYYYYY has played in 19 games and missed 14 games in his career including 6 due to a gun shot wound. So now the 49ers have brought in THE MOST UNDER-APPRECIATED WR IN NFL HISTORY in Mike Evans, but they need Ricky to be Mike’s Robin like Chris Godwin Jr was. Mike Evans and Chris Godwin Jr. combined for 20 touchdowns in 2020 when they won the Super Bowl. They both had 1,000 yards receiving in the same season 4 times and combined for 15 or more touchdowns 6 times in 9 years. That is the production the 49ers need from this WR group to keep up with the Seahawks and the Rams. Mike Evans even at 32 going on 33 years old, will still draw coverage. Ricky Pearsall has the talent to do it and showed flashes last year against the Seahawks and Cardinals when he had 104 and 117 yards receiving. He now has to make defenses respect him and show his 49ers teammates and the organization that he can stay healthy to be the guy they drafted him to be. If Ricky doesn’t show it this year, the 49ers won’t hesitate to give the reigns to 2nd round Rookie De’Zhaun Stribling who they believe was the best WR in this year’s draft. It’s a make or break year for Ricky Pearsall. And his spot in the offense is the key for the 49ers Super Bowl run. #49ers #SanFrancisco #RG3 #OuttaPocket #NFL #FoxSports
