I still remember the thrill I felt when I first saw the opening of Tales of Phantasia. It was probably the first time I’d ever seen a Super Famicom game with a vocal opening, and it honestly felt groundbreaking back then. I also loved how the combat played out like an action game, and overall it was just a really fun experience. At the time, I never imagined the Tales series would become such a long-running franchise, but seeing new titles still coming out even now is pretty amazing. I’ve only played up to Tales of Destiny. Which game in the Tales series did you enjoy the most?

I grew up with the C64 (early 80s) as so many of you here. My very first game ever, the one that my brother and I played to death, was Falcon Patrol (1983) designed by Steve Lee. If there is one sound I will remember until my final days, it will be the refueling sound of the jet. What was your first computer and the very first game you played on it? (Not a game that you played at your friend's place or at the arcades - but the first game on your very own first computer)

It frustrates me how Mafia 3 is a brilliantly written and directed game for its first 4 hours then just falls off a cliff because it gets hampered down by the worst game design structure decisions I've ever seen. I still like Mafia 3 but it had so much wasted potential.

Duke Nukem 3D was the first game we ever played in a LAN setting. Whether at an internet café (now a thing of the past, like Blockbuster) or a friend's house, those LAN sessions were legendary. Hauling a 17" monitor, tower, keyboard, mouse, speakers, and cables was quite a sight - especially on public transport. The stares from the older generation (who, I now realize, are my age!) were priceless. The graphics, epic sound effects, legendary weapons, and Duke's total badass attitude made it truly emblematic of 90s gaming. I don't think I ever played a better LAN game.

There are many things that I remember about first playing Populous (1989), Bullfrog's absolutely groundbreaking God game. 1) I had no clue what I was supposed to do. 2) That didn't matter, because the game still had this irresistible pull - mostly because it was so very different from any other game I had played before. 3) The background music was incredible, almost haunting, and very much adding an extra layer of "OMG yes!" to the game. Populous lets you play as a deity shaping isometric landscapes - raising/lowering terrain, summoning floods, earthquakes, swamps, and volcanoes. I would guess that not many ever finished the game (500 levels!) but pretty much everyone played it. To me this is a historic milestone in gaming history.

Weird Dreams (Rainbird Software, 1989) is indeed a very fitting title for one of the weirdest games ever. You are playing the character Steve, who is fighting for his life in the form of dream challanges. If you fail, you flatline. I wasn't a kid anymore when I first played this, but in my teenage years. Pretty much creeped me out back then, and still looks pretty funky now. The game got extremely mixed reviews, with some magazines rating it in the 80-90% range, while others hated it (scores of below 30%). If there was ever a game that had the perfect title, this would be it. Total nutcase, never played anything like it since.

HOW IS HE MAKING ME LOVE MY FAVORITE GAME EVEN MORE??? I’ve played this like 6 times and I always just perceived this as wow that silly girl we met in the forest was actually so different & turned out to be a princess I never even considered that it was literally a parallel of Shulk from the beginning of the game. My mind is actually being blown man oh my godddd — I truly did not think this game had more left for me to love 😭

Ever since the first SimCity (the C64 version was the first one I played, then Amiga, then MSDOS), I’ve spent thousands of hours playing games in this series (I can’t count them all, but it’s definitely somewhere around that). And I’m really glad that SimCity 4 (with mods) is still an excellent city builder game. And while I may have a soft spot for SC, SC2000 and SC3000, I still consider SC4 to be the best installment. Anyway - good night, y'all!

Kawhi Leonard on his lingering ankle injury and leaving the Lakers game early: “I only had two minutes left in the game to play anyways. Just been a lingering injury. They said if it didn’t loosen up just let them know. I told medical I’d rather play whatever minutes I played tonight than try to blow it out in the last two minutes I had left. So just went to the back, made sure everything was right, and got treatment.” Said it felt alright tonight, but he’s still battling through it.

First time I was lead on a project was for Clash of Clans. We created a 360 degree experience you can pan around inside the YouTube video! The biggest thing I learned was managing people, which I am still learning about. Some animators needed more help than others. I learned when I should speak up to save us from mistakes and when to take on more without being asked because it was my responsibility to ensure the success and pleasant working environment for the team. I had never actually played Clash of Clans before working on this, a few years later I tried it and understood what all the fuss was about. It can be an addicting game especially if you’re in a clan with friends or family.
