Last year I learned that although it's called the New York Times Bestseller list, it's not actually a list of books that sell the best. The Economist magazine got in touch with me and asked about my experience. Later, they conducted their own internal analysis, which is now publicly available. They found strong evidence of political bias in how the NYT puts together its bestseller list. If two books sell the same number of copies—one labeled liberal and the other conservative—the liberal book is much more likely to appear on the list. Even when a conservative book does make it, it tends to fall off the list more quickly. So it's not just harder for conservative books to get on the list. It's also harder for them to stay there.

The US is approaching the end of the long-term debt cycle. There are 3 levers we can pull to bring the deficit down to ~3% of GDP and mitigate our debt burdens: 1) reducing spending, 2) increasing taxes, and 3) lowering interest rates. While we need to consider each of these levers, I recently discussed why reducing interest rates will ultimately have the greatest impact on the budget deficit with IMF.
