Actor Rajinikanth speaks about the importance of learning English. He studied in a Kannada-medium school for his primary and middle schooling, where he scored 98% and was considered exceptionally bright. However, when he shifted to an English-medium school for high school, he struggled to keep up with other students and his marks dropped to 17-18. He makes a striking observation in the context of Tamil Nadu: Tamil will not grow just by Tamilians speaking Tamil; rather, the growth of Tamilians will ensure Tamil’s growth. English is the global language. Most scientific knowledge is available primarily in English. The world is moving towards English, yet the RSS does not want your children to learn or speak it. Meanwhile, BJP leaders’ children study in English-medium schools and pursue education abroad. They don’t want you to learn English, ensuring that you and your children remain subservient to them. Growth of our people will strengthen our language and culture and not by trapping our people in our own language forever without learning how to take on the world.

TN CM Thiru M.K.Stalin hasn't realised that his attempts to divert the misgovernance in the State to a non-existent Hindi imposition haven't appealed to anyone in TN except a few paint-dabba-carrying folks. However, Thiru M.K.Stalin seemed to have missed this speech by his party’s General Secretary. It is him pushing Hindi. The NEP advocates for a three-language policy, with any Indian language as the third language. Our question has remained simple: Why do you have 2 different rules in the State? When a private school student is provided the opportunity to learn a third language, why is it deprived of our Government school students?

There is a Hindi imposition from the last 70 years. From banks and railway stations to passport offices, Hindi is being imposed and people are fed up of it. The Indian government gives special status to the Hindi language over the non-Hindi languages. Even private organisations have started this trend…. RCB has fans all over India and not just among Hindi speakers. They are actually representing Bangalore whose language is Kannada. They did start a Kannada Twitter handle to reach the locals, which is a good step… What was the need to give importance to Hindi speakers? Why not to Tamils, Telegus or Malayalis? Ather's announcement of the Tamil dashboard (well-timed for Pongal) made me go back to the time when the company announced the launch of its Kannada dashboard, for Kannada Rajyotsava Day on November 1, 2025. The Tamil ad has actor-director Parthiban using his famous Tamil wordplay to talk about Tamil, as a language, and then introducing the scooter's Tamil dashboard, with a nod to his famous 'Dubai Kurukku Sandhu' comedy too :) Parthiban speaks entirely in Tamil, addressing Tamilians directly - understandably so. But interestingly, Kannada actor Ramesh Aravind (who, incidentally, has a sizeable body of work in Tamil cinema too) spoke in a mix of English and Kannada. Ramesh seemed to be addressing more of the non-Kannadiga population than Kannada-speaking, asking people to learn Kannada through small, simple methods using everyday conversation. Why this change? Is it because of Bengaluru's famous cosmopolitan nature, and the predominant grouse of the local population that those who make the city their home do not make an attempt to assimilate into the local culture (with knowledge of Kannada cited as a gateway for such assimilation, even though cultural assimilation can happen in many more ways than just speaking or understanding the language)? But isn't Karnataka much, much bigger than just Bengaluru? Step away from Bengaluru and you would more likely need to understand Kannada for everyday conversations in most other cities in Karnataka. Not very different from stepping away from Chennai, into the many other cities of Tamil Nadu. The other logical miss was the fact that the Kannada dashboard was meant for people who understand, prefer, and love that language. Not those who are learning it (or not) to assimilate into the local culture. Ather anyway has multilingual dashboard; so, someone who lives in Bengaluru and has Hindi as their mother tongue, would rather choose the Hindi dashboard, over the Kannada dashboard. There's no point in addressing them in a mix of English and Kannada, and introducing the Kannada dashboard to them. The Tamil ad plays first, followed by the Kannada ad. #marketing #advertising #language

India is a land of many languages — but true unity stems from mutual respect, not forced conformity. Tejasvi Surya (तेजस्वी सूर्या) is a native Kannada speaker from Karnataka, just as Marathi is widely spoken across Maharashtra. While regional languages are an essential part of India's cultural identity, the employees of the Government of India primarily communicate in Hindi and English — the two official languages recognized and used across all central institutions. Expecting every central government or bank employee to fluently speak the regional language of the state they’re posted in is not just unrealistic, but also unfair. Take banking, for instance — it’s a centrally administered service. Bank employees may be posted anywhere in the country, often in states where their native language is not spoken. India’s linguistic landscape is incredibly rich — dialects and accents change every few kilometers. In such a diverse setting, Hindi, understood by a majority, and English, used officially, act as common communication bridges. These employees are here to serve and assist. If there's a problem with their service, it should be addressed constructively. But criticizing or harassing them for not speaking a local language is unjust. Should a Kannada speaker be expected to speak Punjabi in Punjab, Pahari in Himachal, or Haryanvi in Haryana? Certainly not. The recent incident involving a bank employee being targeted over a language issue is deeply unfortunate. It reflects a disturbing trend — one that threatens to sow division in the name of identity. Language is a means to connect, not to divide or degrade. India’s strength lies in its diversity. And that strength is preserved not by making everyone the same, but by recognizing, accepting, and respecting our differences. Let us not forget — dignity, respect, and service must rise above language barriers. That's the essence of a united and inclusive India.

A prominent Kannada journalist has torn into the government's move to ban Hindi, and raises some straightforward, hard hitting questions: 1) Do all those who are opposing Hindi actually have their own children studying in the state syllabus, so that this policy would apply to their kids? 2) By what right do you get to dictate what our kids should learn? Now, please allow me to add a few questions of my own. 1) Why isn’t the government banning Urdu schools and Madrasas funded by Kannadiga taxpayers? Aren’t Muslims Kannadigas too? If not, why are they living off our taxes? If yes, why aren’t they required to learn to read and write Kannada? 2) If this is about minority rights to preserve their language, why aren’t there as many Tulu or Kodava schools as there are Urdu schools? 3) Even by the definition of a minority, aren’t Hindi speaking people in Karnataka also a linguistic minority? This is exactly why subjects like Education, Agriculture, and Health should be moved to the Central List. Let the state cabinets enjoy watching IPL matches from the VIP lounge instead of meddling in critical sectors.

If somebody working in other states don’t want to speak that states official local language then why go there to make living or do business? Get out and go back to your home state. (Listening to below attach clip will further make more sense) 1. Though normally don’t agree with politicians like Tejasvi Surya or for that matter Raj Thackeray style of divisive politics based on language. But here what wrong had #TejasSurya said? He had not incited people for violence or to hate others. He just said migrants people who had come to Karnataka for a living should speak in local language. What wrong in that ? 2. This is not just a question of people speaking Kannada or Tulu or Marathi,Tamil,Malayalam,Telugu or Bengali and other languages. If somebody is going in other states in our country for job or doing business then they should not only respect local people’s culture and languages butthey must also learn and speak that local language. Else people should go to any states in India as tourist and return back to their home state. 3. Why local people in Karnataka,Maharashtra,TamilNadu, West Bengal or any states are upset and angry not because of outsiders migrations but migrant people refusing to learn and speak local language and migrants behave very arrogantly many times, sometimes violently against local people. Even PM #NarendraModi had suggested people to learn 2-3 other states languages apart from our own mother tongue language. 4. Any govt organisation sending people to other states must ensure that their employees learn local language before giving them job profile training or after transfer to other states . Any private sector Businesses wanting to setup industries or offices in any states, must ensure they learn local language of that particular state, employ local people and when they are hiring people from other states then migrant employees are made to learn and speak local languages. If not then better leave that state. 5. 28 States in Bharat ie. India were formed on linguistic ie. Language basis. How can we afford to become one nation with only one language,with one culture, one system which is what people call it #Woke #Wokisme culture? Our SanatanDharma is very vast diverse ocean of many languages,rituals,food habits,different ways of life. We must maintain that diversity as we are not ChineseCommunistsParty ruled one party one Communists-Maoists country. 6. Hearing that few Business people saying they will shift their businesses from #Bengaluru to Pune or some other place as they and their employees are pissed off by local population insistence of speaking in local language and that they don’t want to learn and speak in local language. Why are you there first of all? You have not gone there as tourists for few days but you people found some business/employment opportunities to make a living then better learn and speak local language or go back to your home states. 7. People learn English before going to USA,UK,Australia and other English speaking countries. People learn French,Spanish,Mandarine,Japanese,Arabic languages before or after going to those countries . Else how can they survive and continue to work in these countries? Then why people in our country unwilling and refuse to learn and speak local languages of states where they work and make a living ? 8. Of course we the people of Bharat ie. I don’t understand what’s happening with some “Lashkar-E-Oolatas” groups these days. The truck driver is from another state and doesn’t even reside in Karnataka, yet some ppl r forcing him to speak Kannada just for publicity. If he had insulted the language or our state, questioning him would make sense but he was simply here to deliver goods. Such actions by a few are only damaging the dignity and true value of Kannada. When we speak politely and respectfully others naturally feel comfortable learning and speaking our language. But incidents like these will only create more problems, not solutions. I currently live in Pune, and many of my colleagues are from Karnataka. We speak Kannada among ourselves, and sometimes others even pick up a few Kannada words. We also communicate in Hindi and the local language, and there’s absolutely no conflict over language. But even here, a few so-called activists keep provoking innocent people unnecessarily. Many of my local colleagues often wonder why some Ji#hadi people don’t communicate in Kannada. Even some colleagues from regions like Bidar aren’t fluent in Kannada, which shows how diverse language use can be.

Tamil Nadu IT and Digital Services Minister Dr P Thiaga Rajan (PTR) on Wednesday mounted a sharp defence of the state’s language policy, daring the Centre to “do better” if it wants Tamil Nadu to reconsider its stand on the three-language formula under the National Education Policy (NEP). He made the remarks while speaking at India Today's Tamil Nadu Roundtable event. With the Assembly elections approaching and alliance talks intensifying in Tamil Nadu, India Today hosted the high-profile event, which brings together leading politicians, strategists, policymakers and analysts. “We are anti-Hindi imposition, not anti-Hindi.
