"Do It Again" has one of those intros that pulls you in before you even know what the song is about. Steely Dan's breakout hit in 1972 has that Latin-influenced beat I have always loved. I finally looked into the meaning behind the lyrics, and I think I will... show more

Little story related to one of the supporting musicians on this. A junior high school friend, Jacob Feldman, had me over his house one day. I noticed photos and gold records recognizing several "Steely Dan" songs. Jake said "Yeah, my Dad Victor played percussion on those!"

Dar, love this post! Steely Dan is one of my favorites. I’ve seen them three times in concert. Their music is so tight. Now I’ve got to go put on an album!

😊✌️

Steely Dan is so good and their sound is so unique. Took me awhile to appreciate them when I was younger though.

This is one of the videos that make me ask, how good ARE you that you have Skunk Baxter doing percussion... 🤣🤣🤣

One of my top 5 bands!!

Wow.

My favorite song of theirs.

Pepper, here's a different "Do It Again."

I love it and he's singing with his daughters. Thank you so much for sharing this one. So glad he reunited with his girls.

Me too. I'm sure Carney and Wendy treasure that time with their father.🙂

70's songs were generally about two things and one of them was dealing drugs!

You can hear the Santana influence in the Latin percussion fused with Rock.

Steely Dan founders Donald Fagen and Walter Becker attended Bard College in Annandale-on-Hudson, NY. While at Bard, they had a band called Leather Canary. The drummer for Leather Canary was Chevy Chase.

Hell yeah

Jeff Baxter who played the guitar solo on this iconic tune and he later became a doobie brother . About 10 years ago at the Dallas guitar show, I heard this older guy who was sitting down & I’m like who is he? Whoa, he talked to us and was so humble for 45 minutes. Nice guy

Yes, love it.

Cool jam!

Steely Dan

Denny Diaz.

❤️❤️

Agreed! Grest tune!

One of my favorites! I don’t think I’m going to look up the meaning though 😂

Great song!

😎✌️

Great song. Good memories.

Great song! I like the electric organ and the percussion is fantastic.

Great Song. They were very popular

❤️✌️

It’s a brilliant, clever song and so true to the mistakes people make.

My favorite band

Another favorite of mine. 🙏🏻

Great song super intro tight rhythm cool laid back singing. Love it. 😍

Excellent work 👊

So many great players in that band over the years

Do I want to know what they mean?😂

Denny Dias plays a Coral Electric Sitar solo on the song. When Rick Beato interviewed him and asked how he came to play it, Denny said he saw one in the studio and figured it would sound cooler than just playing the solo on a regular electric guitar.

I first found Steely Dan while watching the movie FM as they wrote the title song of the same name, been a fan ever since

agreed live the intro

NYC band and the '70's were pretty ugly in NYC. Rising crime, drug addiction, & garbage everywhere. I lived just outside NYC and saw it. '80's were bad too with the Crack Wars. Turned around in the '90's.
