It is most likely in everyone's best interest to build Automatons (Advanced Machines). Things which can do all the things we need them to do to bring about abundance, but which do not possess self-awareness, consciousness, or moral status. A world full of billions or trillions more conscious beings who may not want to do ANY of the "abundance" things we want is a possibility and it doesn't look like it would be very pretty.

It definitely should, and it definitely will.

"Consciousness" is over stated. The kind of behavioral flexibility that accrues with "consciousness" may be necessary for reinforcement learning or other developmental techniques.
