Do y’all know about DC Hand Dancing? It’s a popular dance that started in the 1950s in the DC area. It’s called different names in other areas. Chicago calls it Step Dancing. I can’t do it like them yet but I’m learning! #DCHandDancing #HandDance #StepDancing

We still do it at a spot in DC called Takoma Station every 2nd Sunday. I may slide thru there today. It’s from 4pm-7pm and it’s FREE! Food and drinks are available but you have to pay for that.

In the Chi it’s called Stepping, back in the day some called it bopping. Whats in this video ain’t stepping. They struggling. Steppers are smooth and cold wit it.

They absolutely aren’t struggling and they’re just dancing and having a good time. Y’all get on my nerves with these petty comments. It’s not a contest.

Her legs😳

Right. And doing so smooth with them heels on! Sis is baaaad!

You can watch this in its entirety on YouTube. This happened on the streets of DC a few years ago. The next time I go out I’m may record it and share. On YouTube it’s Hand Dance Scene - National Hand Dance Association- Washington DC “Justin and Deonna”

Correction: Chicago calls it Stepping.

Oh ok. I knew it was step something. Thanks for the clarification

That’s Detroit Ballroom…that couple is from Detroit as well. Ballroom & the Chicago Step look similar but are very different as Ballroom movement is somewhat like an urban salsa (cha cha step up, cha cha step back) but a smoothed out form. But all beautiful on the dance floor!
