I grew up in a village and passing horses was a daily occurrence so yes I always slow down I’ve seen drivers who don’t causing the horses to bolt. To me, they should be banned from driving.

Always. Go as quietly and carefully as I can. Don’t rev the engine either. And give a wide berth.

💯as a horse rider myself, many drivers don’t seem to realise that they are liable. I’ve had many drivers on lanes think that 60mph means 60mph whatever! Crazy

It’s just common courtesy, I always do and I like to see the beautiful horse so it’s easy to slow down. Most don’t give a crap,sad.

I actually slow down so much because I want to admire the horse. Takes time to admire its properly.

Always for horses dogs strollers. To think I used to ride along country roads ponying two horses off each side AND had a slew of barn dogs trotting along. Everyone knew to get in line until after a car passed and they would slow and wave. Now they whiz by and honk their horn. No Country Code anymore.

Yes. In fact when I'm riding a motorbike on a country track, I turn my engine off. Horses are easily spooked.

Yeah, if you live in the countryside it should be pretty common sense to slow down for animals around the road.

My pony was bombproof and I was never concerned about riding on the road. One day she spooked at a pheasant in the hedge and shot across the road. I remember seeing the wing of a passing car inches from her rump. Slow down and pass wide. Even the calmest equine can surprise.

Always and slow down to slower than the horse & rider is going and put on emergency lights to alert any other drivers around.

I do slow right down and keep slow till I’m well past to make sure the car behind doesn’t speed up too early.

As a rural horse rider, I find lorry drivers, bus drivers, tractor drivers, van drivers and even local young lads in cars are great. The only consistently selfishly dangerous drivers are women from the university campus. It's bizarre.

Always, and when it's a very narrow road I crawl behind them until they are confident to wave me past them too. It generally only takes a few seconds more.

Absolutely. I've been on horseback with somebody barreling down the road behind me. I was lucky, I had a great horse, but he did have to jump a berm to get out of the cars way.

Shame local horse riders on the beach don’t slow down and are more than happy to gallop past people who have put their dogs on leads for them and kiddies playing on there. It works two ways.

I always slow right down and usually wait for a very safe passing spot but 10mph is not "the law". It's advisory.

Only a complete dolt would drive close to, or speed past a horse. They are nervous and powerful animals, difficult to control when spooked. I one saw a horse use its back legs to pulverise a car, whose driver deserved the mess.

Yes, always, you could spook the horse, causing it to rear up, injuring the rider, itself or others.

You should slow to 10mph and give at least 2m of space - remember most of us hate having to ride on roads & we’re on 1/2 ton of animal that can do a lot of harm to your car and itself.
