The protests were led by pro-Palestinian student groups who demanded that the university divest from firms that profit from Israel's war and occupation in Palestine. More than 100 people were arrested after university President Nemat Minouche Shafik asked police to break up a tent encampment students had set up on campus in support of Gaza. The protests have received national attention, with statements from President Joe Biden and New York City Mayor Eric Adams condemning antisemitism on Columbia’s campus. The university president, Nemat Shafik, was criticized by Republicans at a House of Representatives committee hearing on antisemitism on campus.

@johncusack I guess the subjects taught at Columbia University, such as history, geography, politics, and religious studies, are very interesting nowadays. There is a new breed of student who stands up to lies and propaganda #ColumbiaUniversity
