Had an interesting conversation this weekend with an older relative who's politics are "just be a good person". She's relatively wealthy and gives to the types of causes you would expect this type of person to give. She gives her time too. She is actually a good person. I asked her if she was ever concerned that the causes she gave to would reduce the proportion of people like her in the world. She said that she thought the opposite. That she was inspired by the generosity and kindness of others, and that by giving she would increase the proportion of people like her. I said I believed she inspires her peers, but her peers aren't the people she's giving money to. Do they become productive and generous people, like her? Or is she just increasing the proportion of people who are takers and don't give anything back? Despite decades of generosity, this was clearly a question she had never thought about. The implications made her uncomfortable, and the conversation basically ended after that.

I’ve had a lot of people say Candace will move to Russia soon. I don’t think so. Her visit didn’t go well. I watched many of the PR interviews they set up for her and they were disasters. I don’t know if it was a language barrier that made her come off as so stupid or if she didn’t want to really talk but she didn’t do well in any of them. She couldn’t even answer the questions they asked many times. One interviewer had to ask her twice many questions. She answered most every question with “family is important” for an hour. It was weird. The next interview (and I’ll post it again here) is a friend of Putin and I guess didn’t know she was Catholic. Because he basically said the Catholic Church was corrupt and satanists. They had become super liberal even so much so that they did same sex marriages. And that France and the opening of the Olympic Games proved it. You could see she was upset and instead of defending the Church as not liberal or corrupt, she went on a Bridgette and France is bad answer. I think one reason she did that is she knew this guy was Putins friend and popular in Russia. She couldn’t push back on him. She was clearly not comfortable the entire interview. 30 minutes in she cut the interview and said we need to close it here. Her interviews were a disaster, her security guy almost died (I’m still on the fence about the story on why he was sick) and Ukraine bombed close to the hotel and event. She can say all she wants Russia is amazing. She’s lying. I think she found out just how not amazing it is.

The hospital reportedly asked the people who brought her to seek further help because her condition was beyond what they could handle. What she meant was never that AKB was “better” than KLP, or that she was criticizing KLP, Malaysia, or the people around her there. She explained that she is genuinely grateful for the environment she had in KLP, and at the same time, her experience in Malaysia made her realize how many things in AKB she had previously taken for granted. With KLP, they were essentially building a 48 Group and its idol culture from the ground up in a place where that system and environment were not already established. There were a lot of fun experiences, but naturally there were also difficult things that came with having to create something from scratch. Because she went through that experience, when she returned to AKB, she became more aware of all the things that were already established and prepared for the members there, and it made her feel grateful for the AKB environment as well. She specifically emphasized that this was NOT about saying one place was better than the other. She said that both places were wonderful to her, both were places she loved, and that was what she had wanted to convey. She also mentioned that some Malaysian fans had misunderstood what she meant, and clarified that she never intended for her words to be used to attack anyone. this entire sequence is one of the most chilling moments in nikke but also one of my favorites. you can genuinely hear the pain and anger in dorothy's voice, and when rapi said that they could kill doban "together" - she shuts down and gets confused. i don't know if it was because she was shocked that rapi would agree to killing doban, or because rapi was giving her the chance to actually kill him, causing her to freeze up because she couldn't do it. at every moment she's given to kill him, she was strong and didn't do it. i think rapi knew this which is why she even suggested the idea of helping her kill doban.
